How do I use dry shampoo?
Dry shampoo couldn’t be easier to use. Simply shake the can, spray some of the shampoo onto the roots of your hair, making sure to cover any particularly greasy areas.
Gently massage the shampoo into your scalp and then leave it for a minute or two to work its magic (this might be a good time to get changed, do your makeup, or make a cup of tea). Finally, brush your hair out and style it — you’re ready to go!
How does dry shampoo work?
Dry shampoo contains alcohol and starch-based ingredients to soak up the oils collecting in your hair.
By removing these oils and adding fragrance, your hair will feel much cleaner and fresher.
Technically, though, it doesn’t wash or clean your hair and shouldn’t be used as a complete replacement for your regular shampoo.
It simply disguises any dirt or grease on your scalp so you can go longer between washes.
Will dry shampoo show up in my hair?
Most dry shampoos are white when you spray them onto your hair, which can be worrying if you have dark or coloured hair — after all, is there anything more obvious than big white roots when you turn up to work?
Luckily, these dry shampoos won’t make your hair look white as long as you brush them out properly.
You may find that a softer brush, like a boar bristle brush, can make it easier to brush out dry shampoo and leave no trace of it in your hair.
Alternatively, some dry shampoos are designed to be used on different coloured hair, for example, you can buy brown dry shampoo which would be much less likely to show up in brunette hair and a range of other shades.
Which is the best dry shampoo?
There are some excellent dry shampoos on the market nowadays, with different scents and even different colours (for those who have been caught out forgetting to brush white dry shampoo out).
Some of our favourites come from brands like Batiste, Herbal Essences and Aussie, but you may find another favourite amongst our range.
