Generally regarded as the “go to” over-the-counter (OTC) medicine for the relief of fever, headaches and other minor aches and pains by parents across the UK, Calpol contains paracetamol or acetaminophen as the active ingredient. Calpol comes in a number of varieties, including an availability in tablets, capsules, decongestion sprays, as well as one that contains ibuprofen and sold under the name Calprofen. The traditional, suspension syrup continues to be popular with adults and young children due to the sweet taste that accompanies the medication, making it easier to administer to younger children.
Calpol Infant is suitable for children older than two months, with limitations, whilst Calpol SixPlus is suitable for children over six years old, with different dosage guidelines as the child gets older. Where as Calpol Infant is only available in a suspension syrup, SixPlus also comes in the form of Fastmelts. Calpol’s Vapour Plug and Nightlight is suitable for use with children over 3 months old and is plugged into a standard UK socket.
Calpol is now owned and manufactured by Johnson & Johnson Limited.
