Piriton Hay Fever Relief 4mg Tablets are used to treat hay fever symptoms and other allergies.
This medication is a drowsy antihistamine.
How Piriton Hay Fever Relief 4mg Tablets work
Piriton Hay Fever Relief 4mg Tablets contain the active ingredient chlorphenamine maleate. It is an antihistamine that relieves the symptoms of allergies and some skin rashes.
Directions
Always take Piriton Hay Fever Relief 4mg Tablets exactly as described in the patient information leaflet or as your doctor / Chemist4U pharmacist has told you.
For adults and children over 12 years old:
Take 1 tablet every 4-6 hours as needed. Do not take more than 6 tablets in 24 hours.
For children 6-12 years old:
Give your child half a tablet every 4-6 hours as needed. Do not give them more than 6 half tablets in 24 hours.
Do not take these tablets for more than 14 days without talking to your doctor first.
Side effects
Like all medicines, Piriton Hay Fever Relief 4mg Tablets may cause side effects in some people, but these won’t affect everybody. Common side effects include:
- Drowsiness
- Difficulty concentrating
- Dizziness
- Headaches
- Blurred vision
- Nausea and vomiting
- Dry mouth
- Fatigue
If you experience any side effects, including any not included in the patient information leaflet, you can report them using the MHRA Yellow Card Scheme.
Serious side effects
Seek emergency medical attention if you notice any signs of a severe allergic reaction, symptoms of which include swelling of the face and throat, skin rash, breathing difficulties and/or loss of consciousness.
Warnings
Piriton Hay Fever Relief 4mg Tablets may be unsuitable for certain people. Do not take these tablets if you are allergic to any of the ingredients.
Talk to your doctor or Chemist4U pharmacist before taking this medicine if:
- You have high blood pressure
- You have heart disease
- You have epilepsy
- You have glaucoma
- You have an enlarged prostate
- You have liver disease
- You have kidney disease
- You have bronchitis, asthma or chronic lung disease
- You have been told you have an intolerance to certain sugars
Using/taking other medicines
If you are taking or have recently taken any medication, including medication obtained without a prescription, talk to your GP or pharmacist before taking this medication.
Do not take Piriton Hay Fever Relief 4mg Tablets if you have taken monoamine oxidase inhibitors (MAOIs) in the last two weeks.
Do not take this medication if you are taking any other medication that contains antihistamines.
Tell your healthcare provider if you are taking phenytoin for epilepsy or medications for anxiety or to help you sleep.
Age restrictions
This medication is not suitable for children under 6 years old.
Pregnancy and breastfeeding
If you are pregnant or breastfeeding, think you may be pregnant or are planning to have a baby, you must ask your doctor or Chemist4U pharmacist for advice before taking any new medicine.
Alcohol
Do not drink alcohol whilst you are taking this medication.
Driving and operating machinery
Piriton Hay Fever Relief 4mg Tablets may cause drowsiness. If you are affected, do not drive or operate machinery until you feel safe enough to do so.
Storage information
Store below 30°C in a cool, dry place out of sight and reach of children. Do not use after the expiry date, referring to the last day of the month stated on the packaging. Do not throw away any medicines via wastewater or household waste.
