What is Lyclear Dermal Cream?

Lyclear Dermal Cream is a treatment for scabies that can also be used to treat pubic lice. It can be used on children aged 2 and up, making it a suitable treatment for all the family. If you’re struggling with scabies, Lyclear Dermal Cream can provide the relief you need.

What is scabies?

Scabies looks like a rash so many people believe that scabies is an infection, but that isn’t true. Scabies is an infestation on the skin caused by tiny mites which lay eggs in your skin. It can appear anywhere on your body, but usually does not spread to the head.

How does Lyclear Dermal Cream help to treat scabies?

Lyclear Dermal Cream contains the active ingredient permethrin, which is one of a group of medications called pyrethroids, which work to kill mites. As the scabies rash is made up of mites, this treats the infestation at its source.

Can I use this product to treat crab lice?

Lyclear can also be used to treat crab lice, however you will need to use this product slightly differently to be sure that you are treating the entire infestation.

Can I use this product if I’m pregnant or breastfeeding?

You should speak to your doctor or Chemist 4 U pharmacist before using this product if you are pregnant or breastfeeding. Some treatments may not be safe for you or your baby at this time, and a medical professional may recommend a different product to treat your condition.

Can I use this product if I have asthma or eczema?

You should speak to your doctor or Chemist 4 U pharmacist before using Lyclear Dermal Cream if you have asthma or eczema, as this product can make symptoms worse. You may need to use an alternative course of treatment for your condition.

Can I use this product if I am taking other medication?

You should speak to your doctor or Chemist 4 U pharmacist before using this product if you are using other medication, including those you obtained without prescription. Some medications can interact when used together, making them less effective or causing unwanted effects. For example, you should not use medications known as corticosteroids or steroids to treat skin conditions while using this product, as they can make the infestation of scabies and lice worse. This is because they interfere with your body’s natural defences against lice and scabies.

Can I have sex when I am using this treatment?

If you do choose to have sex while using this treatment, you should be aware that this product can reduce the reliability of products which are made from latex – including latex condoms or diaphragms. You may need to use an alternative method of contraception at this time.

How to use this product

To use Lyclear Dermal Cream to treat scabies, you simply need to apply the cream to cool, dry skin in the affected area. Apply in a thin layer all over the body. If your head and face are not affected by scabies, you do not need to apply the treatment there. Be sure to cover hard to reach areas, such as the areas between the fingers and toes, beneath finger and toenails, wrists, elbows, armpits, external genitalia and buttocks. Do not take a hot bath or shower immediately before treatment.

  • For adults and children over the age of 12 – Apply up to 30g of cream (an entire 30g tube)
  • For children aged 6 – 12 – Apply up to 15g of cream (half of a 30g tube)
  • For children aged 2 months – 5 years – Apply up to 7.5g of cream (one quarter of a 30g tube)

To use this product to treat crab lice in adults, use up to one 30g tube of cream. Check facial hair and eyelashes for lice and lice eggs before treatment. Remove any live lice or eggs before treatment begins. Apply to all facial hair, carefully avoiding eyes and eyelashes.
