What is Dermol 500 Lotion?
Dermol 500 lotion is an emollient which helps to soften and hydrate dry skin, especially when you’re suffering from conditions such as eczema or dermatitis. It helps to moisturise dry skin and prevent symptoms like itching and can be used in people of all ages as an emollient or as a substitute for irritating soaps.
What is eczema?
Eczema is a dry skin condition which can make your skin feel dry, irritated, and itchy. Eczema is a common condition, especially in children, and can happen in smaller patches or more widespread areas all over the body. Some of the most common places where people experience eczema include:
- Inside of elbows
- Backs of knees
How will Dermol 500 help to soothe my dry skin?
Dermol 500 works to relieve dry skin conditions in two ways. Firstly, it works as an emollient, which forms a barrier over the skin that stops moisture escaping. This softens and hydrates your skin, preventing and relieving dryness and symptoms like itching. This lotion also works as an antimicrobial, which means that it kills bacteria on the skin that can make dry skin conditions worse, also helping to prevent infection.
Can I use this lotion if I have sensitive skin?
You can use this product if you have sensitive skin, but you should always test a new skincare product, such as Dermol 500, on a small patch of skin before the first application. This will help you to be sure that this product is safe to use on your skin, and will make you aware of any potential side effects. This kind of testing should also be done before using this product to treat small children or before using on the face.
Can I use this emollient at the same time as other medications?
Dermol 500 lotion is not known to affect any other medication, however, you should speak to your doctor or Chemist 4 U pharmacist before using this product if you are using other medications. Some products can interact when used together, but a medical professional can help you to avoid this.
Can I use this product if I’m pregnant or breastfeeding?
If you are pregnant or breastfeeding, you should speak to your doctor or Chemist 4 U pharmacist before using this product. Although Dermol 500 can be used at this time, a medical professional can help you to choose the best product for you and your baby at this time.
How to use this emollient
Dermol 500 Lotion can be used in one of two ways, either as an emollient or as a substitute for soap:
- To use as an emollient, gently smooth this lotion onto the skin, covering all of the affected areas. Do not rub in vigorously, give the lotion time to soak in if needed, reapply as needed
- To use as a soap substitute, use exactly as you would use your regular soap or shower gel. After you’ve washed, pat the skin dry gently with a soft towel, do not rub the skin
When should Dermol 500 lotion not be used?
Do not use Dermol 500 lotion if you are allergic to benzalkonium chloride, chlorhexidine dihydrochloride, liquid paraffin, isopropyl myristate, or any of the other listed ingredients. For external use only, avoid contact with eyes, especially if you use this product on the face. If you use this product as a soap substitute it can make your bath or shower very slippery, so be sure to take care to avoid slipping.
