Frequently Asked Questions

What causes indigestion?

There are various reasons why you might be suffering from indigestion and heartburn, such as certain foods, drinks and medication.

The most common reasons are the result of eating fatty, greasy or spicy foods, overeating or eating your food too fast, consuming too much caffeine or alcohol, smoking, anxiety and medications like certain antibiotics or painkillers.

If you keep getting indigestion, you might need to make some lifestyle alterations - try altering your diet to see if it improves and, if it doesn’t, speak to your GP for advice.

Can acid reflux cause back pain?

Back pain isn’t a direct symptom of acid reflux, but you can get a burning pain that may spread from your chest to your neck, shoulder blades, and lower back.

If your back pain is related to your acid reflux, it would most likely flare up when you eat a certain food or drink, and may be accompanied by heartburn, a burning sensation in your chest.

Rest is usually an option for nerve-related back pain, for example, but as it’s caused by the acid in the stomach, painkillers or antacids are a good solution to easing your symptoms.

Can vitamin supplements cause stomach pain or diarrhoea?

Vitamin supplements usually won’t cause stomach problems like pain, nausea, or diarrhoea.

However, it’s important to note that supplements can have side effects sometimes, and stomach issues can be some of these.

This can happen if you’re sensitive or allergic to any of the ingredients in your supplement or simply because the supplement isn't right for you.

If you experience any side effects after taking a vitamin or supplement, you should speak to your doctor or pharmacist right away and ask for their advice.

Which vitamins are good for digestion?

Maintaining a healthy diet full of essential nutrients is a great way to keep your digestive system functioning the way it should.

our digestive system particularly needs B vitamins, which are usually found in fish, poultry, meat, dairy products, leafy greens and beans.

If you’re suffering from a digestive condition like Crohn’s disease, studies show that you may be more likely to have low levels of vitamin A, but you should always check with your GP before taking a new supplement to see if it’s safe and beneficial for you.
