FAQs

Your baby may have colic if they are crying for more than 3 hours a day, 3 days a week for at least 1 week.

They may also cry more often during the afternoon or the evening. If your baby has colic, they might:

  • - Clench their fists
  • - Go red in the face
  • - Bring their knees up to their tummy
  • - Arch their back
  • - Have a rumbling tummy
  • - Have a lot of wind

Colic refers to when your baby is crying a lot without any obvious cause and, while it can be upsetting, it’s a common problem that should get better on its own.

Your baby might have colic if they cry more than 3 hours a day, 3 days a week for at least 1 week, and they will likely cry more often in the afternoon and evening.

It will be hard to settle your baby if they have colic; they might clench their firsts, go red in the face, bring their knees up to their tummy or arch their back.

Whilst the exact cause of colic is unknown, it’s thought to possibly be caused by trapped wind.

Simeticone works to relieve the pain and discomfort associated with trapped wind by joining together all of the little gas bubbles inside the stomach, creating bigger bubbles that your baby can easily bring up as wind.

Not only can giving your baby a massage help you to connect with them, but it can ease your baby into sleep, help them to relax, control stress and reduce crying.

It’s best to use oil, like Johnson’s Baby Oil, to massage into their skin to keep it soft and supple; but please note that the NHS recommends waiting until your baby is one month old before you start using any oils or lotions.

You shouldn’t massage your baby too soon after feeding as it can cause them to vomit - it’s a good time to massage your baby at night to help them sleep as part of their bedtime routine.
