How to use this medicine

If you find the capsules difficult to swallow, your doctor may be able to advise on alternative ways to take your medicine. Do NOT crush or chew these capsules or the content of an emptied capsule, because this will prevent them from working properly.
The dose of lansoprazole depends on your condition. The recommended doses of Lansoprazole Capsules for adults are given below. Your doctor will sometimes prescribe you a different dose and will tell you how long your treatment will last. Recommended doses are as follows:
Treatment of heartburn and acid regurgitation:

How can Lansoprazole Capsules provide relief from digestion issues?
Lansoprazole is a proton pump inhibitor that works to improve symptoms by reducing the amount of acid produced by the stomach. It can be used to treat the following conditions:
- Treatment of duodenal and stomach ulcer
- Treatment of inflammation in your oesophagus
- Prevention of reflux oesophagitis

What is heartburn?
Heartburn is a symptom of acid reflux. It occurs when acid produced by the stomach travels up towards the throat and causes a burning sensation in the middle of your chest. You may also experience a cough, hiccups, bad breath and nausea when suffering from acid reflux. Although acid reflux is not a serious condition it may be a symptom of gastro-oesophageal reflux disease (GORD). If you often experience heartburn and acid reflux it is recommended that you seek advice from your doctor, as they will be able to prescribe a medicine known as a proton pump inhibitor (usually either omeprazole or lansoprazole) which can help to reduce the amount of stomach acid that is produced by your stomach.
Can you take this medication with other medicines?
Tell your doctor or pharmacist if you are taking, have recently taken or might take any other medicines. In particular, tell your doctor or pharmacist if you are taking medicines containing any of the following active substances, as Lansoprazole Capsules may affect the way these medicines work:
- HIV protease inhibitors, such as atazanavir and nelfinavir
- Ketroconazole, itraconazole, rifampicin
- St John’s Wort
When NOT to use Lansoprazole Heartburn Treatment?
Do NOT take this medicine if you are allergic to any of the ingredients in this medicine (see ingredients tab for full list). Speak to your doctor or a Chemist4U pharmacist if you have serious liver disease - your doctor may have to adjust your dose. Taking a proton pump inhibitor, like Lansoprazole, especially over a period of more than one year, may slightly increase your risk of fracture in the hip, wrist or spine. Speak to your doctor if you have osteoporosis or if you are taking corticosteroids. Seek advice from your doctor before taking this medicine if you:
- Have low vitamin B12 levels or have risk factors for low vitamin B12 levels and receive long-term treatment with Lansoprazole Capsules, as with all acid-reducing agents, Lansoprazole capsules may lead to reduced absorption of vitamin B12.
- If you are due to have a specific blood test
- If you have ever had a skin reaction after treatment with a medicine similar to Lansoprazole Capsules that reduces stomach acid
This medicine is NOT suitable for children. If you take more Lansoprazole Capsules than you should, seek immediate medical advice from your doctor or nearest hospital. If you forget to take Lansoprazole Capsules, take it as soon as you remember unless it is nearly time for your next dose. If this happens, skip the missed dose and take the remaining capsules as normal. Do NOT take a double dose to make up for a forgotten capsule. Do NOT stop treatment early because your symptoms have got better. Your condition may not have been fully healed and may reoccur if you do NOT finish your course of treatment. If you have any further questions on the use of this medicine speak to a Chemist4U doctor or pharmacist.
