It is a type of medication known as a proton pump inhibitor which works by reducing the amount of acid that is produced by the stomach. The active ingredient is presented in a gastric-resistant capsule. This medication is only available on prescription, so speak to one of our doctors or fill in one of our quick consultation questionnaires to discover if Lansoprazole is suitable to treat your symptoms.

How lansoprazole works

Lansoprazole is a proton pump inhibitor that works to improve symptoms by reducing the amount of acid produced by the stomach. It can be used to treat the following conditions:

  • Treatment of duodenal and stomach ulcer
  • Treatment of inflammation in your oesophagus
  • Prevention of reflux oesophagitis

Directions

Always take this medicine exactly as instructed by your doctor. Swallow the capsule whole with a glass of water. If you find the capsules difficult to swallow, your doctor may be able to advise on alternative ways to take your medicine. Do NOT crush or chew these capsules or the content of an emptied capsule, because this will prevent them from working properly.

Dosage

The dose of lansoprazole depends on your condition. The recommended doses of Lansoprazole Capsules for adults are given below. Your doctor will sometimes prescribe you a different dose and will tell you how long your treatment will last. Recommended doses are as follows:

Treatment of heartburn and acid regurgitation:

One 15mg or 30mg capsule every day for 4 weeks. If symptoms persist you should report to your doctor. If your symptoms are not relieved within 4 weeks, please contact your doctor.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is heartburn?

Heartburn is a symptom of acid reflux. It occurs when acid produced by the stomach travels up towards the throat and causes a burning sensation in the middle of your chest.

You may also experience a cough, hiccups, bad breath and nausea when suffering from acid reflux.

Although acid reflux is not a serious condition it may be a symptom of gastro-oesophageal reflux disease (GORD), a long-term form of acid reflux.

If you often experience heartburn and acid reflux it is recommended that you seek advice from your doctor, as they will be able to prescribe a medicine known as a proton pump inhibitor (usually either omeprazole or lansoprazole) which can help to reduce the amount of stomach acid that is produced by your stomach.
