What is bath oil for?
Bath oils are designed to be added to your bath water to give your skin an extra boost of hydration.
They can be highly beneficial for people who suffer with dry skin conditions like eczema, psoriasis and dermatitis, as long as they’re from trusted dermatological brands like E45 and QV.
Scented bath oils can also provide a luxurious spa-like experience, but you should be careful using fragranced products if you’ve got sensitive skin.
Are hot baths good for you?
We all crave a hot bath sometimes, especially during the cold weather or if we’re feeling a little under the weather - but are there benefits to them?
You shouldn’t have your bath too hot as it can burn and damage your skin, but a warm bath can increase the oxygen and flow of your blood, allowing you to breathe deeper and slower, especially when there’s steam.
Additionally, it can kill bacteria, improve immunity, and relieve cold and flu symptoms.
Are bath emollients safe?
Bath emollients are perfectly safe to use in your bath or shower, and they can be essential if you’re managing a dry skin condition.
However, there are a couple of things you should consider, just in case.
For starters, emollients can make your bath or shower surfaces slippery, so you should be careful when you’re getting in or out, so you don’t slip and hurt yourself.
How often should you bathe your baby?
A newborn baby shouldn’t get too dirty, so there’s no need to bathe them every day - doing so can actually dry out their skin.
As a general rule, you shouldn't bathe your baby more than 3 times per week, but you can reduce or exceed this amount if you wish - baby’s are unpredictable, after all.
When your baby gets older, they will require more bathing as they explore and play, but this should increase naturally.
