What are Bisodol Indigestion Relief Tablets?

Bisodol Tablets are a form of relief that is designed to treat the effects of three conditions, indigestion, heartburn, and trapped wind. The tablets work by neutralising the pH in the stomach acid. Excess stomach acid is a common cause of indigestion and heartburn.

What is indigestion?

Indigestion can be characterised by a pain in the upper abdomen, known as dyspepsia. Heartburn can also be caused by indigestion. Indigestion is often caused by the stomach acid coming into contact with the protective lining of the stomach. This contact can lead to inflammation of the digestive system. However, many people who suffer from indigestion do not feel this, and instead, it is believed to be because of sensitivity in the digestive system. Indigestion is often triggered by eating certain foods as well as smoking, drinking, stress, pregnancy, as well as certain types of medication.

What is heartburn?

Heartburn, also called acid reflux, is when stomach acid goes up into the throat, causing a burning feeling in the chest and throat. Like indigestion, heartburn is caused by certain foods, drinks, smoking, pregnancy, stress and also medications like anti-inflammatory painkillers (e.g. ibuprofen).

What is trapped wind?

Trapped wind is when pressure builds up in the stomach which then leads to pain and discomfort. Trapped wind is mainly caused by drinking fizzy drinks, foods that contain a high amount of fibre, fatty foods, fructose (a type of sugar), and carbohydrates.

Who are these Bisodol Tablets suitable for?

These tablets are suitable for anyone aged 12 and over who are suffering from the effects of indigestion, heartburn, and/or trapped wind. Anyone who is allergic to any of the ingredients in the tablets should not use them. You should also not use the Bisodol if you have had kidney problems or you have been told that you have a low level of phosphate in your blood.

Are these tablets suitable to be used when pregnant or breastfeeding?

It is recommended that you speak to your doctor before using these tablets.

How many Bisodol Indigestion Relief Tablets should be taken a day?

You should take 1-2 tablets a day as needed. You can either suck or chew the tablets.

Are there any side effects?

Like with many different types of medication, there is a chance of side effects. Potential side effects include diarrhoea and constipation. If you notice any side effect, then you can report it using the MHRA Yellow Card Scheme.
