Frequently Asked Questions

Does SPF prevent wrinkles?

One of the most effective ways to prevent wrinkles is by regularly wearing sunscreen.

Applying sunscreen with at least SPF 30 every day, even during the winter, can help to prevent premature ageing caused by sun damage.

Make sure you’re looking for a broad-spectrum sunscreen to protect against both UVA and UVB rays.

Should I use an SPF moisturiser every day?

One of the most important elements of your skincare routine should be your daily dose of SPF 30 or above.

This applies during all seasons of the year, even if it’s never particularly sunny where you live!

Not only does SPF protect your skin from the harmful UV rays that cause skin cancer, it can also prevent premature ageing.

What does SPF mean?

The Skin Protection Factor is a measurement of the protection from UVB rays.

UVB rays, a type of ultraviolet ray that comes from the sun and is a form of radiation, is thought to be the cause of numerous types of skin cancer.

There are three types of UV ray:

  • UVA
  • UVB
  • UVC

UVC doesn’t come through the Earth’s ozone layer and isn’t much of a threat.

UVA is linked to cell ageing and long-term damage but is said to not be as damaging as UVB.

SPF rating focuses on UVB, and the rating determines the amount of protection offered in terms of time it would take for a sunburn to take effect.

What SPF should you wear daily?

You may believe that your SPF 15 sunscreen is enough to prevent skin damage, and although it’s certainly better than nothing at all, you should choose a sunscreen with at least SPF 30.

There are two types of UV rays that you should protect yourself from - UVA and UVB.

When buying your sunscreen, look for the UVA star rating; this should be no less than 4.

Why is SPF in skincare important?

Ensuring that your skincare products (i.e your moisturiser) contains an SPF isn’t just important on warm, sunny days, but on cloudy and rainy days, too.

Without it, your skin is at risk of being exposed to harmful UV rays which can lead to skin damage, wrinkles, sunburn, and sometimes skin cancer.

It’s important to wear an SPF of at least 30 to ensure you’re protected.
