What is Robitussin Mucus Cough Congestion Relief Medicine?

This medicine is a form of treatment that works to provide relief for a mucus cough. It does so thanks to the two active ingredients contained in the medicine, which are:

  • Guaifenesin
  • Pseudoephedrine

Guaifenesin is an expectorant that loosens the mucus that is trapped in the chest, throat, and nose. Pseudoephedrine is an antihistamine that reduces the symptoms associated with a cold, the flu, as well as allergies such as hay fever.

 

What causes a mucus cough?

A mucus cough is a symptom of a condition such as a cold or the flu. It is caused when the infection causes an increase in mucus production when ends up in the chest, throat, and nose. As a result, the body responds by causing a cough which is the body’s way of trying to remove the mucus.

 

Who is this medicine suitable for?

This Robitussin medicine is suitable to be used by adults and children aged 12 and over. It should not be used by anyone who is allergic to the ingredients contained in the medicine. It should also not be used by anyone who:

  • Is suffering from heart disease
  • Has an overactive thyroid
  • Has glaucoma
  • Is diabetic
  • Has difficulty passing urine
  • Used an antidepressant called a Monoamine Oxidase Inhibitor (MAOI) in the last 14 days

How should Robitussin Mucus Cough Congestion Relief Medicine be used?

Use up to 10ml by putting the medicine onto a spoon and swallowing it. Do this up to four times a day. Do not exceed using four times a day. If you are still experiencing symptoms after a week of use, speak to a doctor or Chemist 4 U pharmacist.

 

Are there any side effects?

Because it is a medicine, there is a chance of side effects. Potential side effects include:

  • Skin itching or rashes
  • Heart palpitations
  • Nausea
  • Vomiting
  • Anxiety
  • Increased blood pressure
