Robitussin Mucus Cough Congestion Relief is a treatment that tackles the symptoms associated with a mucus cough.

 

How Robitussin Mucus Cough Congestion Relief works

Robitussin Mucus Cough Congestion Relief contains the active ingredients guaifenesin and pseudoephedrine hydrochloride. 

Guaifenesin belongs to a group of medicines known as cough expectorants. It works by changing an unproductive cough to a productive, less frequent cough.

Pseudoephedrine hydrochloride is a nasal decongestant that relieves symptoms of the common cold.

 

Directions

Always take Robitussin Mucus Cough Congestion Relief exactly as described in the patient information leaflet or as your doctor / Chemist4U pharmacist has told you. 

Take 10ml every 4-6 hours, up to 4 times a day.

 

Side effects

Like all medicines, Robitussin Mucus Cough Congestion Relief may cause side effects in some people, but these won’t affect everybody. Common side effects include:

 

  • Nausea 
  • Vomiting 
  • Sickness
  • Headaches
  • Dizziness 
  • Feeling restless
  • Feeling anxious, irritable or nervous 
  • Being unable to sleep
  • Skin rashes 
  • Increased blood pressure
  • Tremor 

 

If you experience any side effects, including any not included in the patient information leaflet, you can report them using the MHRA Yellow Card Scheme.

 

Serious side effects

Seek emergency medical attention if you notice any signs of a severe allergic reaction, symptoms of which include swelling of the face and throat, skin rash, breathing difficulties and/or loss of consciousness. 

 

Warnings

Robitussin Mucus Cough Congestion Relief may be unsuitable for certain people. Do not take this product if you are allergic to any of the ingredients or if:

 

  • You have very high blood pressure that is not controlled by medication
  • You have kidney disease or kidney failure
  • You have heart disease
  • You have an overactive thyroid 
  • You have glaucoma 
  • You have diabetes 
  • You have an enlarged prostate gland
  • You have pheochromocytoma
  • You have difficulty passing urine  

 

Talk to your GP or pharmacist before taking this medication if:

 

  • Hyperthyroidism 
  • An enlarged prostate gland
  • Psychosis 
  • A chronic cough 
  • Asthma 
  • Bronchitis 
  • Emphysema 

 

Using/taking other medicines

If you are taking or have recently taken any medication, including medication obtained without a prescription, talk to your GP or pharmacist before taking this medicine. 

Do not take Robitussin Mucus Cough Congestion Relief if you are taking the following medication:

 

  • Monoamine oxidase inhibitors (MAOIs)
  • Medication to control your blood pressure e.g. alpha or beta-blockers
  • Other decongestant products
  • Certain antibiotics e.g. oxazolidinone antibiotics 

 

You must tell your healthcare provider if you are taking ergotamine or methysergide to treat migraines.



Age restrictions 

This product is not suitable for children under 12 years old.

 

Pregnancy and breastfeeding

If you are pregnant or breastfeeding, think you may be pregnant or are planning to have a baby, you must ask your doctor or Chemist4U pharmacist for advice before taking any new medicine. 

 

Storage information

Store in a cool, dry place out of sight and reach of children. Do not use after the expiry date, referring to the last day of the month stated on the packaging. Do not throw away any medicines via wastewater or household waste.
