What is Robitussin Chesty Cough Medicine?

Robitussin Chesty Cough Medicine is a form of treatment that is intended to provide relief for a chesty cough. It can also be used for treating mucus coughs, as they are the same thing. This medicine contains the active ingredient guaifenesin, which is what is known as an expectorant. An expectorant is a type of drug that helps to loosen mucus from the chest, throat and nose, reducing cough and making breathing easier.

What causes a chesty cough, or a mucus cough?

A chesty/mucus cough is caused most commonly by an infection, such as a cold or the flu. The germs that cause the illness to enter the body and spread to cells throughout. The resulting inflammation leads to an increase in mucus production. This increase in mucus production is also combined with swollen blood vessels in the nose, causing a blocked nose. The mucus in the chest and throat also causes a blockage, which is why a cough begins as it is the body’s natural response in order to try and remove the mucus.
