What is Robitussin Dry Cough Medicine?

Robitussin Dry Cough Medicine is a treatment that works to reduce the symptoms of a dry cough. The active ingredient in this medicine is dextromethorphan, which is a drug that is known as a cough suppressant.

 

What causes a dry cough?

A dry cough can be caused by a number of conditions, such as a cold, the flu, or an allergy. A dry cough can also be caused by smoking. A dry cough does not produce mucus and is known as a non-productive cough. A tickly throat can cause irritation as well as a cough.

 

Who is this cough medicine suitable for?

This Robitussin medicine is suitable to be used by adults and children aged 12 and over. It should not be used by anyone who is allergic to the ingredients contained in the medicine. You should also not use this medicine if you have or have had any of the following:

  • An antidepressant knew as a Monoamine Oxidase Inhibitor (MAOI) which is also used to treat Parkinson’s Disease
  • Any other antidepressant

If you are using any other form of medication, then speak to a doctor or Chemist 4 U pharmacist before using this.

 

Can someone who is pregnant or breastfeeding use this medicine?

Anyone who is pregnant or breastfeeding should seek advice from a medical professional before using this medicine.

 

How should Robitussin Dry Cough Medicine be used?

Take 10ml of medicine by using a spoon up to four times a day. Do not use for more than a week at a time. If symptoms still persist after using, speak to a doctor or Chemist 4 U pharmacist.

 

Are there any side effects?

Like with many types of medication, there is a chance of side effects. Potential side effects include:

  • Itchy skin
  • Rashes
  • Faster heart rate
  • Swelling in the face
  • Stomach upset
  • Dizziness
  • Drowsiness
