What is Liquivisc Eye Gel?

Liquivisc is an eye gel expertly formulated using the lubricant Carbomer 947P to help soothe the symptoms of dry eyes, which can include: soreness, burning, irritation and dryness, caused by the eyes not producing enough tears.

How to use Liquivisc Eye Gel

Always take Liquivisc Eye Gel exactly as described in the patient information leaflet or as your doctor / Chemist4U pharmacist has told you. The usual dosage of Liquivisc is 1 drop in each eye that requires treatment, no more than 4 times per day.

Do not use Liquivisc Eye Gel if the seal surrounding the cap is broken. Start by washing your hands prior to use to prevent infection. Tilt your head back and look up, carefully pulling the lower eyelid on the selected eye until a small pocket appears. Turn the bottle upside down and squeeze to release 1 droplet into the opened pocket; release the lower lid and blink. Finish all steps in one eye before moving on to the other if it requires treatment.

How does Carbomer 947P relieve dry eyes?

Carbomer 947P is a synthetic polymer and is the active ingredient in Liquivisc Eye Gel. When used, it produces a clear, moistening lubricant to form a film on the surface of the eye, creating artificial tears to soothe dry eyes. Carbomer 947P clings to the surface of the eye and is not easily washed away, keeping uncomfortable symptoms away for longer.

What are dry eyes?

Dry eyes are a common issue and can be caused by things such as: windy, cold, dry and dusty environments; air conditioning; the use of contact lenses and long exposure to computer screens. In addition to using this product, you could try simple, preventative methods yourself by:

  • Keeping your eyes clean

  • Taking breaks to rest your eyes when using a computer screen

  • Ensuring your computer screen is at eye level so you do not strain your eyes

  • Using a humidifier to stop the air getting dry

  • Getting plenty of sleep to rest your eyes

  • If you wear contact lenses, taking them out and wearing glasses to rest your eyes

Is Liquivisc Eye Gel suitable for pregnant and breastfeeding women?

If you are pregnant or breastfeeding, think you may be pregnant or are planning to have a baby, you must ask your doctor or Chemist4U pharmacist for advice before taking any new medicine.

When should Liquivisc Eye Gel not be used?

Liquivisc Eye Gel may be unsuitable for certain people. Do not use this product if you are allergic to any of the ingredients. It is important to take special care when using Liquivisc Eye Gel if you wear soft contact lenses. These must be removed before using. After use, wait at least 30 minutes before putting your lenses back in. Do not consume or inject Liquivisc Eye Gel.

Are there any side effects?

Like all medicines, Liquivisc Eye Gel may cause side effects in some people, but these won’t affect everybody. Seek emergency medical attention if you notice any signs of a severe allergic reaction, symptoms of which include swelling of the face and throat, skin rash, breathing difficulties and/or loss of consciousness. Other side effects may include:

  • Temporary blurred vision

  • A mild, short-lived stinging or burning sensation in the eye

If you experience any side effects, including any not included in the patient information leaflet, you can report them using the MHRA Yellow Card Scheme.

Why do I need to answer questions to buy this product?

You do not need a prescription for Liquivisc Eye Gel, however, you will be asked to complete a short medical questionnaire by your Chemist4U pharmacist before we can take your order. This includes some simple questions that all pharmacies legally are required to ask before supplying this kind of product. This helps our pharmacy team to be sure that Liquivisc Eye Gel is the best choice for you.
