What are Strepsils Menthol Lozenges?

Strepsils Menthol Lozenges are a treatment that works to relieve the effects of a sore throat and mouth irritation. These lozenges also contain menthol, which works as a decongestant that can help to relieve a blocked nose. The lozenges contain two active ingredients that help to provide relief for a sore throat. These are:

  • Amylmetacresol
  • 2,4-dichlorobenzyl alcohol

These are both antiseptics that work to clear bacteria that is in the mouth. These lozenges will also soothe the throat and provide lubrication.

 

What are the main causes of a sore throat?

A sore throat can be caused by a number of conditions, including a cold, the flu, as well as laryngitis and tonsillitis. A sore throat can also be caused by an allergy and also smoking. A sore throat can be caused when bacteria gets into the mouth after someone has coughed or sneezed and the resulting germs have lingered in the air.

 

Who are these lozenges suitable for?

These lozenges are suitable to be used by adults and children aged 6 and over. Anyone who has a sensitivity to the ingredients in the lozenges should not use them. They should also not be used by anyone who has an intolerance to some sugars, including fructose, glucose, and sucrose.

 

Can someone who is pregnant or breastfeeding use these lozenges?

If you are pregnant or breastfeeding, then you should speak to a medical professional for advice before using these lozenges.

 

How should Strepsils Menthol Lozenges be used?

Use one lozenge and place into the mouth and allow for it to dissolve completely. Use one lozenge every 2-3 hours but use no more than 12 in a 24-hour period.

 

Are there any side effects?

There is a small chance that you will experience side effects but it is rare. Potential side effects include itching or burning caused by an allergic reaction. If you notice a side effect, stop using and speak to a doctor as soon as possible. You can also record side effects using the MHRA Yellow Card Scheme.
