What is athlete’s foot?
Athlete’s Foot is a very contagious fungal infection that can cause the skin on your feet to become dry, itchy and uncomfortable. Common symptoms of Athlete’s Foot include itchy, white patches between your toes, as well as sore and flaky patches on your feet that may become cracked and bleed. You may also experience blisters when suffering with Athlete’s Foot. There are a variety of factors that can cause Athlete’s Foot including:
- Walking barefoot in public spaces such as changing rooms, showers and around pools
- Sharing socks, shoes or towels with an infected person
- Ill-fitting shoes
- Feet being damp or wet for extended periods of time
- Sweaty feet
- A minor skin or nail injury on the feet
How can you avoid Athlete’s Foot?
After treating Athete’s Foot there are a variety of steps you can take to avoid reinfection including:
- Spraying your shoes with an Athlete’s Foot shoe spray
- Wear flip flops in public areas such as gym changing rooms, showers and swimming pools
- Dry your feet immediately after washing them
- Use a separate towel for your feet
- Take off your shoes when you are at home to allow your feet to breathe
- Wear clean socks everyday
- Do NOT share towels, socks or shoes with others
- Ensure your shoes fit comfortably and do not make your feet feel hot and sweaty
How can Scholl Athlete’s Foot Cream help to treat symptoms of Athlete’s Foot?
Scholl Athlete’s Foot Cream contains an effective antifungal ingredient called terbinafine hydrochloride which kills the fungi responsible for Athlete’s Foot. It is applied topically on the foot at the site of the infection and works to soothe and cool sore, irritated skin and relieve itching. The effective formula both treats the infection and prevents you from becoming reinfected.
How to use this product
Clean and dry the affected area, especially between the toes and wash your hands thoroughly before applying the cream. Pierce the tube seal by turning the cap upside down over the end of the tube and pressing. Place a small amount of cream on your finger and apply just enough so that there is a thin layer on the affected area and skin just surrounding it. Rub the product in gently. Wash your hands immediately after use. It may be beneficial to apply a gauze strip to cover the site of application, especially at night. Use the cream once or twice a day for exactly 7 days. If you do not use the cream for the recommended time, it may not work. If your symptoms do not improve within 2 weeks of finishing the treatment, consult your doctor or pharmacist.
Warnings
It is important to use the cream for the recommended time as missed doses or finishing treatment before the end of 7 days may risk the infection returning. If you forget an application, apply the cream as soon as possible then continue with your treatment as usual.
When NOT to use this product
Do NOT use this product if you are allergic to any of the ingredients in this product (see ingredients tab for full list) or if you are under 16 years of age or if you are breast-feeding. Seek advice from your doctor or a Chemist4U pharmacist before using this product if you are pregnant or could become pregnant. This product is for external use only - do not put in your mouth or swallow. If this product is swallowed, speak to your doctor immediately. This product may cause local skin reactions, as it contains cetyl alcohol and stearyl alcohol.
Can this product cause side effects?
As with all medicines Scholl Advanced Athlete’s Foot Cream may cause side effects although not everybody will experience them. You may experience redness, stinging or itching after applying the cream. If you experience any side effects that are severe or any symptoms of allergic reaction, such as swelling, pain or rashes, discontinue use immediately and seek medical advice.
