What is Numark Sodium Picosulfate?
Numark Sodium Picosulfate is a remedy for constipation. It works overnight to help relieve your constipation by encouraging a healthy bowel movement. Sodium Picosulfate is perfect for people older than 10 who are suffering with constipation and need a reliable way to help to get their bowel movements back to normal.
Why do I have constipation?
There are lots of reasons why you may have constipation, and many people experience it at one point in their lives. When you have constipation, you’ll find that you’re unable to have a poo as regularly as you usually would, or may find that your poo is larger or harder than usual. Some of the most common causes of constipation include:
- Not getting enough fibre in your diet
- A sudden change in diet
- Not exercising regularly or living a sedentary lifestyle
- Pregnancy
- Some medications, including codeine
How will sodium picosulfate help to ease my constipation?
Sodium picosulfate works to ease constipation because it is a type of medication called a laxative. It stimulates the muscles in your bowel, which helps poo move through your intestine so you can have a healthy bowel movement. It works overnight, and is ideal when you’re trying to help your body get back into its natural rhythm.
Can I use this product if I’m pregnant?
If you’re pregnant or breastfeeding you should speak to your doctor or pharmacist before taking sodium picosulfate. Some medications will not be suitable for you at this time, and a medical professional will help you to choose the best possible remedy for your problem.
Can I use this product if I’m taking other medication?
If you’re taking any other medication, including herbal remedies and medicines obtained without a prescription, you should speak to your doctor or pharmacist before taking this product. This especially applies if you are taking:
- Diuretics, which are used to help you to pass water, e.g. bendrofluazide, furosemide
- Steroid medicines, e.g. prednisolone
- Antibiotics, which are used to treat infections
How to take sodium picosulfate
Take one or two 5ml spoonfuls of sodium picosulfate at night, before you go to bed. Do this every night for up to 5 nights until your bowel movements are regular again. If you need to take this product for more than 5 days, speak to your doctor.
When should this product not be used?
Sodium picosulfate is not suitable for children younger than 10. Do not use this product if you are allergic to sodium picosulfate or any of the other listed ingredients. Do not take this product if you have:
- Severe dehydration
- Ileus, which is a bowel condition with a blockage in the intestine
- A serious abdominal condition, e.g. appendicitis
- Severe abdominal pain with nausea and vomiting and/or fever
- A blocked bowel (intestinal obstruction)
- Inflammation of the bowel
Does this product have any side effects?
Like all medications, sodium picosulfate can have side effects, although not everyone will experience them. These include:
- Feeling faint
- Allergic reaction
- Skin reactions, e.g. rash, itching
- Diarrhoea
- Abdominal discomfort, stomach cramps, stomach pain
- Feeling sick
- Vomiting
- Dizziness

How to store this product
Store in a cool, dry place. Store bottle in original carton to protect from sunlight. Do not use if the expiry date printed on the original packaging. Keep out of sight and reach of children.
