Cleen Ready-to-Use Enema is a bowel cleanser used to relieve constipation or clear the bowel before an endoscopy, bowel surgery, or X-ray examination.
How Cleen Ready-to-Use Enema works
Cleen Ready-to-Use Enema contains sodium dihydrogen phosphate dihydrate and disodium phosphate dodecahydrate. It works by increasing the water content of your stools, helping to relieve constipation and clear the bowel.
Directions
Always use Cleen Ready-to-Use Enema exactly as described in the patient information leaflet or as your doctor / Chemist4U pharmacist has told you.
Wash your hands before using this product.
Lie on your left side with both of your knees bent and your arms resting in front of you.
Remove the orange protective shield and pull the shield gently while holding the bottle upright and grasping the grooved bottle cap with your fingers.
Gently insert the enema into the rectum using a steady pressure. Squeeze the bottle until nearly all the liquid has been emptied.
Remove the nozzle from your rectum. It is normal to experience some leakage of the enema liquid.
Side effects
Like all medicines, Cleen Ready-to-Use Enema may cause side effects in some people, but these won’t affect everybody. There are no known reported common side effects.

Serious side effects
Seek emergency medical attention if you notice any signs of a severe allergic reaction, symptoms of which include swelling of the face and throat, skin rash, breathing difficulties and/or loss of consciousness.
Warnings
Cleen Ready-to-Use Enema may be unsuitable for certain people. Do not use this product if you are allergic to any of the ingredients or if:
- You have a swollen large bowel
- You have a narrowing or incomplete opening of the anus or rectum
- You have a blockage of the lower colon
- You have a blockage or suspected blockage of the gut
- You have abnormal bowel movements
- You have appendicitis
- You have a pierced or damaged gut
- You have an active inflammatory bowel disease e.g. Crohn’s disease or ulcerative colitis
- You have undiagnosed bleeding of the back passage
- You have kidney problems
- You have congestive heart failure
- You have recently been sick or feel sick or thirsty
- You have pain in your stomach
Talk to your doctor or Chemist4U pharmacist before using this medicine if:
- You are frail or elderly
- You have uncontrolled blood pressure
- You have a heart condition
- You have a kidney condition
- You suffer from ascites
- You suffer from rectal ulceration
- You have had a colostomy
- You suffer from electrolyte disturbances e.g. low calcium, low potassium, high phosphate or high sodium levels
Using/taking other medicines
If you are taking or have recently taken any other medication, including medication obtained without a prescription, talk to your GP or pharmacist before using this product.
You must tell your healthcare provider if you are taking the following medication:
- Medication to treat high blood pressure e.g. enalapril, ramipril, lisinopril, losartan, candesartan, eprosartan irbesartan, olmesartan, telmisartan or valsartan
- Medication to treat angina e.g. calcium channel blockers
- Medication for mental disorders e.g. lithium
- Medication that alters your salt levels or causes dehydration
- Medication that alters the rhythm of your heart e.g. amiodarone, arsenic trioxide, astemizole, azithromycin, erythromycin, clarithromycin, chlorpromazine, cisapride, citalopram, domperidone, terfenadine or procainamide
- Non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs) e.g. aspirin or ibuprofen
Age restrictions
This product is not suitable for children under 3 years old.
Pregnancy and breastfeeding
Breast milk is advised to be expressed and discarded for at least 24 hours after using the enema. If you are pregnant or breastfeeding, think you may be pregnant or are planning to have a baby, you must ask your doctor or Chemist4U pharmacist for advice before using any new medicine.
Storage information
Store below 25°C in a cool, dry place out of sight and reach of children. Do not use after the expiry date, referring to the last day of the month stated on the packaging. Do not throw away any medicines via wastewater or household waste.
