Senokot Max Strength Tablets are a natural treatment for the short-term relief of constipation in adults.
How Senokot Max Strength Tablets work
Senokot Max Strength Tablets contain the herbal ingredient senna. Senna is a stimulant laxative that increases muscle activity in the digestive system.
It typically takes 8-12 hours for Senokot Max Strength Tablets to trigger a bowel movement.
Directions
Always take Senokot Max Strength Tablets exactly as described in the patient information leaflet or as your doctor / Chemist4U pharmacist has told you.
Take 1 tablet at night with water.
Do not take any more than 2-3 tablets in one week.
Do not take these tablets for more than a week.
Side effects
Like all medicines, Senokot Max Strength Tablets may cause side effects in some people, but these won’t affect everybody. There are no known reported common side effects of this product.
If you experience any side effects, including any not included in the patient information leaflet, you can report them using the MHRA Yellow Card Scheme.
Serious side effects
Seek emergency medical attention if you notice any signs of a severe allergic reaction, symptoms of which include swelling of the face and throat, skin rash, breathing difficulties and/or loss of consciousness.
If you experience any of the following side effects, stop taking these tablets and speak to your healthcare provider for advice:
- Abdominal pain, spasms and diarrhoea
- Skin itchiness or rashes
- Asthma
- Catching infections more often than usual
- Yellow or red-brown discolouration of urine
- Low potassium levels in the blood which can lead to muscle weakness and/or cramps
- Weight loss
- Changes in the shape of the fingers and fingernails
- Muscular spasms
- Inflammation of the joints and bones
Warnings
Senokot Max Strength Tablets may be unsuitable for certain people. Do not take these tablets if you are allergic to any of the ingredients or if:
- You have a blockage or narrowing of the gastrointestinal tract
- You have paralysis or lack of muscle tone in the bowels
- You have appendicitis or inflammatory bowel disease e.g. Crohn’s or ulcerative colitis
- You have persistent or undiagnosed abdominal complaints e.g. pains, nausea or vomiting
- You have faecal impaction
- You have rectal bleeding or blood in the stools, and you don’t know the cause
- You have had a sudden change in bowel habits that have lasted for over two weeks
- You have kidney failure
- You have heart failure
Talk to your doctor or Chemist4U pharmacist before taking this medicine if you suffer from kidney disorders.
Using/taking other medicines
If you are taking or have recently taken any medication, including medication obtained without a prescription, talk to your GP or pharmacist before taking this product.
You must tell your healthcare provider if you are taking the following medication:
- Medicines for heart conditions e.g. cardiac glycosides and antiarrhythmic medicines such as quinidine
- Medicines inducing quinidine QT elongation
- Diuretics
- Adrenocorticosteroids
- Liquorice root preparations
Age restrictions
This product is unsuitable for anyone under 18 years old.
Pregnancy and breastfeeding
Do not take this product if you are pregnant or breastfeeding. If you are pregnant or breastfeeding, think you may be pregnant or are planning to have a baby, you must ask your doctor or Chemist4U pharmacist for advice before taking any new medicine.
Storage information
Store below 25°C in a cool, dry place out of sight and reach of children. Do not use after the expiry date, referring to the last day of the month stated on the packaging. Do not throw away any medicines via wastewater or household waste.
