What is Dulcolax Pico Liquid Laxative (Sodium Picosulfate) 5mg/5ml Oral Solution?

This Dulcolax treatment is a solution for the symptoms associated with constipation. The active ingredient in this liquid is sodium picosulfate, which is a laxative. A laxative works by stimulating the muscles in the bowel, making the stools move easier.

What is constipation?

Constipation is a condition where discomfort is felt in the gut as a result of bowel movements slowing down or stopping completely. The cause of constipation is not always obvious, and there are a few potential causes of the condition. These include:

  • A sudden change in your diet
  • Not enough fibre in your diet
  • A lack of exercise
  • Stress or anxiety
  • Having to stay in bed for long periods
  • Pregnancy
  • Loss of bowel muscle tone
  • Certain types of medication

The feeling of constipation can make you feel bloated or heavy. It can also cause headaches.

Who is this Dulcolax liquid suitable for?

This liquid can be used by adults and children. It should not be used by anyone who is allergic to the ingredients contained in the liquid. This liquid should also not be used if any of the following applies:

  • Have dehydration
  • A bowel condition called ileus, a blockage in the intestine
  • Have appendicitis
  • Abdominal pain with fever, nausea and/or vomiting
  • A blocked bowel
  • Inflammation of the bowel

If you are using any other type of medication, speak to a doctor or Chemist 4 U pharmacist before using.

Can someone who is pregnant or breastfeeding use this liquid?

If you are pregnant or breastfeeding, speak to a medical professional for advice before using this medication.

How should Dulcolax Pico Liquid Laxative (Sodium Picosulfate) 5mg/5ml Oral Solution be used?

Dulcolax Pico Liquid should only be used by a child under the age of 10 after being advised to do so by a doctor. The usual dose is 2.5ml or 5ml of liquid night. For children under the age of 4, the amount varies depending on the child’s weight. For adults and children aged 10 and over, use 5-10ml of liquid a night until bowel movements return to normal.
