Lunox Sleep Aid Tablets contain diphenhydramine hydrochloride, an antihistamine with sedative properties intended to help you fall asleep. This medicine is only for the relief of temporary insomnia (difficulty sleeping) in adults and adolescents over the age of 16 years old. 

 

How Lunox Sleep Aid Tablets work 

The active ingredient in Lunox Sleep Aid Tablets is diphenhydramine hydrochloride, an antihistamine which induces drowsiness or sedation, working by reducing the time it should take you to fall asleep and increasing the depth and quality of your sleep. 

 

Directions 

Always take this medicine exactly as described in the patient information leaflet or as your doctor or pharmacist has told you. Adults and adolescents over the age of 16 should take two tablets 20 minutes before going to bed. Do not continue to take this medicine for longer than 2 weeks without consulting your doctor. Do not exceed the recommended dose. 

 

Side Effects 

Like all medicines, Lunox Sleep Aid Tablets can cause side effects, but these won’t affect everyone. Common side effects include: 

  • Sedation
  • Drowsiness 
  • Dizziness
  • Unsteadiness
  • Disturbance in attention
  • Dry mouth
  • Fatigue 

If you experience any side effects, including any not included in the patient information leaflet, you can report them using the MHRA Yellow Card Scheme.

 

Serious side effects

Stop taking this medicine and seek emergency medical attention if you experience any of the following side effects: 

  • Difficulty breathing or shortness of breath, swelling of the face, mouth or throat
  • Rash, hives (itchy, raised red weals)

Tell your doctor straight away if you notice any of these side effects: 

  • Fever, chills, sore throat, infections (these may be signs of a blood disorder)
  • Faster heartbeat or irregular heartbeat
  • Fits, difficulty making or controlling movements

 

Warnings

Do not take Lunox Sleep Aid Tablets if: 

  • You are allergic to diphenhydramine hydrochloride or any of the other ingredients in this medicine
  • You have a peptic ulcer
  • You have a blockage between your stomach and small intestine

Talk to your doctor or pharmacist before taking Lunox Sleep Aid Tablets if: 

  • You are pregnant or breastfeeding
  • You are taking any other medicines
  • You suffer from seizures or have epilepsy
  • You have asthma, bronchitis or chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD)
  • You have narrow angle glaucoma
  • You have an enlarged prostate
  • You have difficulty urinating
  • You have moderate to severe liver or kidney problems
  • You are elderly, particularly if you suffer from confusion
  • You have been told by your doctor that you have an intolerance to some sugars (this medicine contains lactose)

Do not drink alcohol while taking this medicine. As this medicine causes drowsiness, do not drive or operate machinery until drowsiness or other side effects have subsided.
