What is Motusol?

Motusol is a topical pain relief gel containing the active ingredient diclofenac, a type of medicine called a non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drug (NSAID). This gel is designed to relieve mild to moderate pain caused by acute sprains, strains and contusions (bruises) following blunt trauma.

How to use Motusol

Always use Motusol exactly as described in the patient information leaflet or as your doctor / Chemist4U pharmacist has told you. Motusol should be used 3-4 times a day. Depending on the size of the affected area, use a cherry to walnut-sized amount (1-4 g of gel). The maximum daily dose is 16 g of gel. Apply the gel to the affected area thinly and rub gently into the skin. Unless the hands are being treated, wash your hands after rubbing in the gel. Motusol should not be used longer than 1 week without medical advice. Speak to your doctor if symptoms do not improve after 3-5 days.

How does diclofenac relieve pain?

Diclofenac is a type of medicine known as a non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drug (NSAID). These work by reducing the hormones that cause pain and inflammation. Diclofenac gel works in the same way as a tablet or capsule, but only on the area you’ve applied it.

Is Motusol suitable for children?

Motusol is only suitable for adults and children over the age of 14. Do not use Motusol on children under the age of 14 - ask your child’s doctor or pharmacist for suitable alternative pain relief.

Is Motusol suitable for pregnant and breastfeeding women?

Do not use Motusol if you are in the last trimester of your pregnancy as it could harm your unborn child or cause problems during birth. If you are pregnant or breastfeeding, think you may be pregnant or are planning to have a baby, you must ask your doctor for advice before taking Motusol.
