What is dermatitis?
Dermatitis is a dry skin condition which happens when your skin is irritated by something you’ve come into contact with. When you have contact dermatitis, you may find that your skin becomes red, blistered, itchy, dry, or cracked after coming into contact with an irritant or allergen. Some of the most common irritants which trigger flare-ups of dermatitis include:
- Harsh soaps or detergents
- Antiseptics or antibacterials
- Perfumes or preservatives in your cosmetics
- Other chemicals
How will E45 Dermatitis Cream help to ease my dermatitis?
E45 Dermatitis Cream contains an ingredient called Ectoin. This is a natural substance which may help to reduce inflammation and has membrane-stabilising properties. It helps to ease inflammation, redness and itching in your skin when you’re suffering from dermatitis or eczema, helping you to feel more comfortable in your skin.
Can E45 Dermatitis Cream also be used for eczema?
Contact dermatitis is a type of eczema which happens when your skin comes into contact with something that irritates it, for example, harsh soaps or disinfectants. As E45 Dermatitis Cream is designed to ease symptoms of dermatitis, it can also be used to ease the same symptoms when you’re having an eczema flare-up. However, you may find that a product designed to treat eczema is more suitable for you, so be sure to speak to your doctor or pharmacist if you’re unsure.
Can I use this cream for dermatitis on my hands?
Hands are one of the most common places where people experience contact dermatitis, especially if you’ve been cleaning with soaps or disinfectants that irritate your skin. E45 Dermatitis Cream is ideal for those who suffer from dermatitis on their hands as you can use its gentle formula every day to soothe your skin. When you have dermatitis on your hands it can make all kinds of everyday things difficult, including eating, using your phone, or cleaning, but this product can ease the inflammation in your irritated hands, making life a bit easier.
Can I use this product if I’m using another medication?

Is this e45 dermatitis cream a steroid cream? I want to try stop using steroid creams on my face (I use eumovate atm)
E45 is an emollient not a steriod cream.
For eczema sufferers it’s important to use emollient around 2–4 times a day (depending on instructions from emollient manufacturers), even if you feel your skin’s improving.
Adults with eczema should use at least 500g every week (about one handful every day) while children with eczema (under supervision) should usually use at least 250g a week (about half an adult handful every day or as indicated by a healthcare professional).
