Our pharmacists regularly review the purchase limits on products allowed to be purchased and what they see as appropriate supply quantities.
With regards to codeine products, they are only allowed to be used for short-term use only. We would therefore only supply this for short-term usage and we have a maximum purchase limit over 3 months.
If you feel your GP is happy for you to buy, rather than wasting NHS resources, we are more than happy to receive a letter or private prescription from your GP to allow supply over and beyond our recommended limits
You do not need a prescription for Codeine Linctus, however, you will be asked to complete a short medical questionnaire by your Chemist-4-U pharmacist before we can take your order. This includes some simple questions that all pharmacies legally are required to ask before supplying this kind of product.
This helps our pharmacy team to be sure that this product is the best choice for you.
Using the dose recommended, Codeine Linctus is not considered to be a hazard, however the use of codeine phosphate at higher doses or in more sensitive individuals may cause sedation, dizziness and nausea.
Patients should be advised not to drive or operate machinery if affected by dizziness or sedation.
