What is Pollenase 50mcg Hayfever Nasal Spray?

Pollenase Nasal Spray is a nasal spray that is intended to be used for the treatment of allergies in the nose, known as allergic rhinitis. This can be caused by a number of allergies, including hay fever. The active ingredient in this nasal spray is beclometasone dipropionate, which is a steroid. Beclometasone works by reducing inflammation in the nose which may be the cause of an itchy, blocked, or runny nose.

Why does the nose become irritated when suffering from an allergic reaction?

Depending on the allergy, symptoms can occur in the nose. This is a result of the body’s response to the allergic substance coming into contact with the body. This triggers a response from the body which releases a number of chemicals, one of which is histamine. Histamine helps blood flow and reduces blood pressure by enlarging the blood vessels. Histamine is actually responsible for many of the side effects that are symptoms of an allergy.

Who is this nasal spray suitable for?

Only adults aged 18 and over should use Pollenase Nasal Spray. It should not be used by anyone who is allergic to the ingredients contained in the nasal spray. You should speak to a doctor or Chemist 4 U pharmacist before using if any of the following are applicable to you:

  • Have kidney problems
  • Have ever suffered from glaucoma
  • Are suffering from a nose infection
  • Have recently had surgery on the nose
  • Are using other steroid-based medication

You should also speak to a doctor or Chemist 4 U pharmacist before using if you are using any other form of medication.

Can someone who is pregnant or breastfeeding use this nasal spray?

Anyone who is pregnant or breastfeeding should consult a medical professional for advice before using any form of medication.

How should Pollenase 50mcg Hayfever Nasal Spray be used?

To use this spray, take the dust-cap off and shake the bottle gently. Before using for the first time, prime the bottle by pressing it until a spray emerges. Spray into each nostril for it to work. The recommended dosage is 2 sprays in each nostril twice a day. If symptoms improve, then this can be dropped to 1 spray into each nostril twice a day. If symptoms have not improved after 14 days, then consult a doctor or Chemist 4 U pharmacist for advice.

Are there any side effects when using this nasal spray?

Since it is a medicine, there is a chance of side effects when using this Pollenase Nasal Spray. Potential side effects include:

  • Swelling in the face, throat, or lips
  • A rash
  • Shortness of breath
  • Dryness
  • Irritation
  • Unpleasant taste and smell
  • Nose bleeds
  • Increased pressure inside the eye
  • Glaucoma
  • A hole in the nasal septum (the skin that separates the nostrils)

If you notice any side effect, stop using and speak to a doctor or Chemist 4 U pharmacist as soon as possible. You can also record any side effect that you notice using the MHRA Yellow Card Scheme.
