What is Optrex Allergy Eye Drops?

Optrex Allergy Eye Drops is an antihistamine based treatment for the symptoms of a number of allergies, including hay fever. It works by preventing the production of the body’s natural histamines, which indicate when the body is allergic to something.

The active ingredient in Optrex eye drops is sodium cromoglicate, an antihistamine that works fast to reduce the symptoms of allergies.

Who is Optrex Allergy Eye Drops suitable for?

Optrex Allergy Eye Drops are suitable for adults and children aged from 6 years and above. If you are allergic to any of the ingredients in the eye drops, then do not use it. The ingredients are:

  • Sodium cromoglicate
  • Disodium edetate
  • Benzalkonium
  • Water

Can I wear contact lenses as well as use eye drops?

No, during treatment is recommended that you do not wear contact lenses.

How often should I use eye drops?

The general guidelines say that you should put one or two drops into each eye up to four times a day. If you want to know what is best for you then speak to your doctor.

Are there any potential side effects?

It is rare but it is possible that there could be a side effect when using Optrex eye drops. The potential side effects include:

  • Burning or stinging in the eyes
  • Blurred vision

However, it should be noted that any side effect should only occur for a short period of time and disappear within a few minutes.
