Ear Infections
An ear infection, known as otitis, results in the inflammation or infection of the ear, with two primary types affecting different parts of the ear: otitis externa (outer ear infection) and otitis media (middle ear infection).
Otitis externa often arises from bacterial or fungal infections, triggered by the retention of water, moisture or irritants in the ear canal. Activities such as swimming, which expose the ears to prolonged moisture, can contribute to its development.
Common symptoms of ear infections include pain or discomfort in the affected ear, ear drainage, difficulty sleeping, balance issues, reduced hearing, and in the case of otitis media, a feeling of fullness or pressure in the ear. Bacterial ear infections may also be accompanied by fever.
