What does vitamin D do?

There are 2 main types of vitamin D. Vitamin D3 (also known as colcalciferol) is the biologically active form of the vitamin which our body produces through converting cholesterol when our skin is exposed to the sun. Vitamin D2 is created by plants when they are exposed to sunlight. We can also receive small amounts of vitamin D by consuming foods such as:

  • Oily fish, such as salmon, sardines, herring and mackerel
  • Red meat
  • Liver
  • Egg yolks
  • Fortified foods, such as some breads and cereals

Vitamin D is an important vitamin that helps to support our bones and other parts of the body. It is mainly used to regulate the amount of calcium and phosphate in the body, as well as helping our body to absorb calcium. This helps to keep our bones, teeth and muscles healthy and strong. It can also contribute to the healthy functioning of our immune system.

Should I give vitamin D supplements to my child?

Research suggests that young children may not be receiving all the nutrients they require from their diet alone. Young children are more likely to be fussy eaters or have small appetites which means they can miss out on important vitamins such as vitamin A and vitamin D. The Department of Health recommends that all children aged from 6 months to 5 years are given vitamin supplements that contain vitamins A, C and D to help support their development and overall health and that everyone over the age of 5 should take a daily vitamin D supplement.

How can Wellkid Marvel Vitamin D help to support your child’s growth and development?

Wellkind Marvel Vitamin D Jellies are an effective way to include vitamin D in your child’s diet to help support healthy growth and development. Each jelly contains 10 micrograms of a vegan form of vitamin D3 which can help to support normal growth, development and normal function of the immune system. The jellies are chewable with a delicious natural strawberry flavour so are easy and pleasant to administer. The jellies are suitable for both vegans and vegetarians and don’t contain any synthetic colours, preservatives, artificial sweeteners, lactose or yeast.
