What is CeraVe Resurfacing Retinol Serum?

Acne marks and uneven skin tone can be a constant, painful reminder of your acne, even after it’s under control. An effective way to reduce the appearance of acne scars and visible pores is by using a gentle, yet effective resurfacing serum that works to refine your skin without compromising its protective barrier.

Developed with dermatologists, CeraVe Resurfacing Retinol Serum helps to smooth your skin's texture by reducing the appearance of post-acne scars, minimising the look of pores and improving your skin’s surface. This effective formula contains encapsulated retinol to help resurface your skin, plus licorice root extract to help brighten your skin’s appearance.

Additionally, it's formulated with 3 essential ceramides that work together to lock in moisture and help to restore your skin’s protective barrier, along with soothing niacinamide. Lightweight, fast-absorbing, non-comedogenic, paraben-free and fragrance-free, this resurfacing serum helps to even skin tone and promotes a healthy-looking complexion.

How to use this product

Apply once per day, in the evening only. Avoid contact with eyes and lips, but if contact does occur, rinse thoroughly with water. If discomfort occurs during the first application, space out applications until your skin adjusts. Please be aware that this product may increase your skin’s sensitivity to the sun, increasing your likelihood of developing sunburn. Use CeraVe Facial Moisturising Lotion SPF50 to protect and hydrate your skin.

Is retinol good for the skin?

Retinol, sometimes known as vitamin A, is an antioxidant that may help to smooth fine lines and wrinkles, ultimately promoting better, healthier skin. Additionally, it may help to shrink those stubborn breakouts by reducing inflammation, one of the leading causes of acne.

When should retinol be applied?

Retinol should always be applied in the evening as it’s very sensitive to light, which is why it’s usually packaged in a dark container. To prevent your skin from sun damage, apply just before you go to bed and allow the product to work its magic while you sleep.

What are the benefits of niacinamide?

Niacinamide is a form of vitamin B-3 and it’s a great solution if you’re dealing with rosacea or acne as it can reduce inflammation, minimise the appearance of pores and regulate oil production. It helps to build proteins in the skin and lock in moisture, in addition to aiding the prevention of sun damage and environmental pollutants.

Does serum go on before or after moisturiser?

Your skincare routine should start with the lightest formulas followed by the heavier creams. That means your serum, which will generally be a thin formula, should go on before your moisturiser, which will be thicker. This is so the active ingredients in the serum can penetrate your skin and you can reap all the benefits.

What skin type do I have?

Determining your skin type is the first step in finding the skincare routine that’s right for you. If your skin produces too much sebum, it may become oily and you’ll probably find that your skin feels overly greasy and shiny. If you have dry skin, you could be suffering from skin that is rough, scaly or flaky. If you’ve got a combination skin type, you’ll probably find that the T-zone (forehead, nose and chin) will generally be oily and prone to blemishes.

When should this product not be used?

Do not use CeraVe Resurfacing Retinol Serum if you are allergic to retinol, niacinamide or any of the other listed ingredients. For use on the skin only, avoid contact with eyes and do not swallow. Do not use on broken, bleeding, infected or otherwise damaged skin. If you experience any irritation while using this product, stop using it right away. If irritation persists, speak to your doctor or pharmacist as soon as possible. If irritation is severe (for example, symptoms of a severe allergic reaction), seek immediate medical assistance.
