What is Doublebase Gel?

Doublebase Gel is a form of treatment that is designed to treat various skin conditions, including eczema and psoriasis. The active ingredients in the gel are liquid paraffin and isopropyl myristate, which work by softening and moisturising the skin. They also will protect the skin from irritants that dry out the skin.

What is the cause of eczema?

The actual reason why people get eczema is unknown, though it is believed that it is as a result of genetics. Eczema is not contagious and there is no cure to get rid of the condition completely. An eczema outbreak can be triggered by several different things, which include:

  • Soaps and detergents
  • The weather – Hot and cold weather in particular
  • An allergic reaction
  • Touching certain materials or substances
  • Hormone changes
  • Skin infections

Being too hot or cold, as well as sweating excessively, can also trigger the effects of eczema.

Who is this gel suitable for?

This gel is suitable to be used by adults and children who require treatment for a skin condition. It should not be used by anyone who is allergic to the ingredients contained in the gel. The gel is safe to be used in conjunction with other forms of medication.

Can someone who is pregnant or breastfeeding use this gel?

This Doublebase Gel is safe to be used by anyone pregnant or breastfeeding. If you need help finding the right skin treatment, then you should consult a medical professional for advice before using this gel.

How should Doublebase Gel be used?

Apply the gel to the affected areas of the skin as and when it is needed. Gently stroke the gel across the skin and do not rub hard on the skin as this can irritate. Allow time for the gel to soak into the skin. This gel can also be used after a bath or a shower. If you are using another form of skin treatment, ensure that they are not mixed. This can be done by leaving enough time for each to dry completely before using the other one.

Are there any side effects?

As with many types of medication, there is a chance of side effects. Potential side effects include skin redness or irritation, as well as an allergic reaction. If you notice a side effect, stop using this gel and speak to a doctor or Chemist 4 U pharmacist as soon as possible. You can also record a side effect using the MHRA Yellow Card Scheme.

Why do I need to answer questions to buy this product?

You do not need a prescription for Doublebase Gel, however, you will be asked to complete a short medical questionnaire by your Chemist 4 U pharmacist before we can take your order. This includes some simple questions that all pharmacies legally are required to ask before supplying this kind of product.
