What is Care 3% Hydrogen Peroxide solution?
3% Hydrogen Peroxide solution is a liquid which works as a mild disinfectant and deodorant. It’s a gentle solution, which disinfects by releasing oxygen when it comes into contact with skin or other bodily tissues, killing bacteria in the process. It’s perfect to use as a skin disinfectant or as a mouthwash or gargle.
When would I use this product?
You can use 3% Hydrogen Peroxide as a mouthwash or gargle, where it will disinfect and deodorise. As well as this, you can use this solution to disinfect minor skin conditions, including:
- Minor cuts
- Minor wounds
- Skin ulcers
- Other superficial damage to the skin
Can I use this product if I’m pregnant or breastfeeding?
You should not use this product if you are pregnant or breastfeeding unless specifically told to by your doctor. If you are pregnant or breastfeeding, speak to your doctor or Chemist 4 U pharmacist before using this product, as they may wish to recommend a more suitable product for you.
Can I use this solution if I’m using another medication?
If you are taking other medication, including those used topically on the skin, speak to your doctor or Chemist 4 U pharmacist before using this product. Some products can interact when used together, causing unwanted side effects or making your medication less effective, but a medical professional can help you to avoid this.
How to use 3% Hydrogen Peroxide solution?
You can use 3% Hydrogen Peroxide in two ways, as a skin disinfectant or as a mouthwash or gargle, depending on your needs.
- To use as a skin disinfectant, first, soak some cotton wool in this solution. Then, use the cotton wool to dress or clean your wound as required.
- To use as a mouthwash or gargle, first dilute a portion of this solution with twice the amount of water, e.g. 5ml of hydrogen peroxide with 10ml of water. Gargle or rinse the mouth with this solution for 2 – 3 minutes, spit the solution out and do not swallow. Repeat up to 3 times a day, as necessary.
When should 3% Hydrogen Peroxide not be used?
3% Hydrogen Peroxide should not be used as a mouthwash by children under the age of 12 but can be used as a disinfectant by people of any age. Do not use this product if you are allergic to hydrogen peroxide or any of the other listed ingredients. Take care when using this product, as it may bleach any fabrics it comes into contact with. Do not use this product:
- On normal skin
- On the eyes
- In closed body cavities
- On surgical wounds
- As an enema
- To disinfect surgical instruments
Does this product have any side effects?
Like all medications, 3% Hydrogen Peroxide can have side effects, although not everyone will experience them. These side effects include:
- Irritating burns on skin or other soft tissues, which may produce a white patch of tissue. The pain from this will usually pass within an hour
- Temporary swelling of the tongue when this solution is used continually as a mouthwash
How to store this solution
Store in a cool, dry place which is below 25 degrees C. Store in original packaging and do not use if the expiry date printed on the packaging has passed. Once opened, use within 28 days. Keep out of sight and reach of children.
