What is Xylocaine Anaesthetic Spray?

Xylocaine 10mg Anaesthetic Spray is a topical, local anaesthetic, metered pump spray to help numb a part of your body to relieve pain or discomfort. Xylocaine 10mg Anaesthetic Spray contains an active ingredient called Lidocaine which is a local anaesthetic used to numb chosen areas - to relieve pain or discomfort.

 

How should Xylocaine Anaesthetic Spray be used?

1) Do not use more than 20 sprays.

2) You should use as few sprays as possible.

3) Do not get the spray in your eyes

4) The spray nozzle is bent so that it works properly. Do not try to change the shape of the nozzle or it might break.

When Xylocaine Spray is used in the mouth and throat it causes a loss of feeling. This makes it more likely that food or liquid may go down the wrong way. Also, this may make it difficult to swallow or cause some people to accidentally bite their tongue or cheek.

 

When should Xylocaine Anaesthetic Spray be used?

1) Do not use more than 20 sprays.

2) You should use as few sprays as possible.

3) The effects should start to take effect in 1-5 minutes.

4) Do not get the spray in your eyes.

Xylocaine Spray should be used with care in the elderly, in people who are in poor general health and children.

 

When should Xylocaine Anaesthetic Spray not be used?

you must not take Xylocaine Spray if you are allergic to lidocaine or any of the other ingredients of this medicine. Do not use if you are allergic to any other local anaesthetics of the same class. If you are not sure whether you are allergic to any of these ingredients, speak to your doctor or another healthcare professional.

Warnings:

Like all medicines, Xylocaine can cause side effects although not everybody gets them. If you have a severe allergic reaction, tell your doctor immediately. The signs may include sudden onset of swelling of the face, lips, tongue or throat. This may make it difficult to swallow and other swellings such as your hands, feet and ankles.

You may find it hard to breathe, or have severe itches. Also feeling dizzy or nervous, and maybe a loss of consciousness.

If you get any side effects, talk to your doctor, nurse, dentist or other healthcare professional.

It does its job but I think it’s a bit too expensive for 50ml…you use quite a lot for an injection (I have to have one every month for at least 5 years so im hoping to get it on prescription from now on)
