What is Care Surgical Spirit?
Care Surgical Spirit is a treatment that is intended to be used for treating bedsores and hardening the skin on the feet. The active ingredient in this liquid is methyl salicylate. This is a drug that improves blood flow by dilating the blood vessels. Methyl salicylate is known as a Non-Steroidal Anti-Inflammatory Drug (NSAID).
What causes bedsores?
Bedsores, also known as pressure ulcers or pressure sores, are injuries that occur on the skin and the tissue underneath the skin. These are caused by pressure on the skin over a longer period. These can appear anywhere but are most common on the heel, elbows, hips, and the spine. They can form in a few hours. Symptoms of these sores include:
- Parts of the skin become discoloured
- Patches not turning white when pressed
- Skin that feels warm, hard, or spongy
- Itchiness and pain in the affected areas
These symptoms are sometimes referred to as stage 1 sore. There are others, which are characterised as:
- An open wound or blister – Stage 2
- A deep wound that reaches deep into the skin – Stage 3
- A very deep wound which could reach muscle or bone – Stage 4
If you notice these, speak to a doctor as soon as possible.
