What is Antiseptic Mouthwash?
Antiseptic Mouthwash is a daily mouthwash which helps to prevent and treat gum disease. This aniseed flavoured mouthwash helps to kill the bacteria that cause gum disease, and can also be used to treat mouth ulcers, oral thrush, and denture sores.
What is gum disease?
Gum disease, which is known in its early stages as gingivitis, is a condition which happens when plaque build up causes damage to your gums. When you have gum disease, you may notice symptoms such as bleeding gums and bad breath, and if left untreated gum disease may become very serious and lead to the loss of your teeth.
How can this mouthwash help to prevent gum disease?
Antiseptic Mouthwash contains the active ingredient Chlorhexidine Digluconate, which is a disinfectant and antiseptic. This means that this mouthwash will help to kill the harmful dental plaque that builds up on your mouth while also fighting infection, preventing gum disease from the start.
How to use Antiseptic Mouthwash
Measure 10ml of Antiseptic Mouthwash and use to rinse your mouth for up to 1 minute, then spit out. For best results, use this twice a day. Do not swallow this mouthwash. When should Antiseptic Mouthwash not be used?
Do not use Antiseptic Mouthwash if you are allergic to any of the listed ingredients. Avoid contact with eyes and ears, if mouthwash gets into eyes, rinse immediately with clean water. Speak to your doctor or Chemist 4 U pharmacist before using this product if you are pregnant, may become pregnant, or are breastfeeding. Antiseptic Mouthwash contains aspartame, a source of phenylalanine, which may be harmful for people with phenylketonuria.
Does this mouthwash have any side effects?
Like all medicines, Antiseptic Mouthwash can have side effects, although not everyone will get them. These side effects can include:
- Signs of an allergic reaction, e.g. swelling of the face, lips, tongue, or throat, a red itchy skin rash, wheezing or difficulty breathing, feeling faint or dizzy, etc.
- Skin irritation
- Swelling of the salivary glands
- Peeling of the skin inside the mouth
If you experience these or any other side effects while using this product, stop use and speak to your doctor or Chemist 4 U pharmacist right away.
