Frequently Asked Questions

Can children use mouthwash?

Generally, young children should not use mouthwash as they are at a higher risk of swallowing the liquid, which could be harmful to them.

Children aged between 6 and 12 years old should only use mouthwash when being watched by an adult, whereas those under the age of 6 should avoid using mouthwash that contains fluoride, as when used in excess could cause spots and streaks to stain their undeveloped teeth.

Is alcohol-free mouthwash better?

There are plenty of mouthwashes on the market, some containing alcohol and some not.

Studies have shown that alcohol-free mouthwashes have a better effect on the colour, hardness and wear of the tooth compared to those with alcohol.

It has also been found that alcohol doesn’t have any effect on the efficacy of mouthwashes.

Should I use mouthwash?

Using mouthwash is a great idea as it can help to prevent tooth decay, particularly if it contains fluoride.

You should not, however, use mouthwash straight after brushing your teeth, as it will wash away the concentrated fluoride left behind after brushing your teeth.

You should also avoid eating or drinking for at least 30 minutes after using a fluoride mouthwash.

What is the best mouthwash for bad breath?

We’ve got a range of products to help you get rid of bad breath, so you can face the world with more confidence.

You’ll first want to look for a product that removes bacteria, as it could be the contributor to your bad breath.

Also, look for a mouthwash that specifically promotes breath freshness, like Dentyl Active Ph Smooth Mint Mouthwash.
