What is Oraldene?

Oraldene is a mouthwash which helps to treat throat or mouth infections. Some of the infections that Oraldene can help to treat are:

  • Mouth ulcers.
  • Gingivitis.
  • Sore gums.
  • Sore throat.
  • Oral thrush.
  • Bad breath.

If you’re suffering with any of these problems or need help to prevent infection after mouth surgery, Oraldene can help to provide the relief you need.

What is gingivitis?

Gingivitis is a stage of gum disease where your gums become red and swollen and can bleed after you’ve been brushing your teeth. It isn’t always painful but can become much more serious if you don’t treat it, leading to an illness called periodontitis which can make your teeth become loose.

How will this mouthwash help to relieve my mouth or throat infection?

Oraldene helps to throat and mouth infections such as gingivitis by using the active ingredient hexetidine. Hexetidine is an antifungal and antibacterial medication, which means it kills bacteria and fungi which cause infections. This helps to both treat infection and prevent them from coming back.

How to use Oraldene mouthwash.

Before using Oraldene, shake the bottle well. Use at least 15ml (around one tablespoonful,) of undiluted Oraldene mouthwash to rinse your mouth or gargle, as needed. Use two or three times a day unless told to do otherwise by your doctor, dentist, or other healthcare professional. Do not swallow.

When should Oraldene not be used?

Oraldene mouthwash is not suitable for children under the age of 6. Do not use Oraldene if you are allergic to any Oraldene products or any of the ingredients listed. Use within 6 months of opening.

Like all medicines, Oraldene can have side effects, although not everyone will get them. These side effects include:

  • Swelling of the lips, mouth, face, tongue, or throat, which could cause difficulty swallowing or breathing.
  • Allergic reactions such as an itchy rash.
  • Irritation, tingling, or numbness of the tongue or the inside of the mouth.
  • Shortness of breath.
  • Cough.
  • Dry mough.
  • Nausea.
  • Vomiting.
  • Salivary gland enlargement.
  • Loss of taste or taste disturbance (including strange taste in the mouth).
  • Pain, swelling, redness, or heat.
  • Tongue or tooth discolouration.
  • Blistering or ulcers.

If you experience these or any other side effects while using Oraldene mouthwash, stop use and speak to your doctor or Chemist 4 U pharmacist right away.
