Covonia Chesty Cough Mixture Mentholated is a cough remedy that helps to get rid of chesty coughs and sore throats. 

 

How Covonia Chesty Cough Mixture Mentholated works

Covonia Chesty Cough Mixture Mentholated contains the active ingredients of liquorice and squill. They belong to a group of medicines called expectorants. They help to loosen mucus when you have a chesty cough.

The formula also contains levomenthol which relieves congestion associated with chesty coughs and bronchitis. 

 

Directions

Always take Covonia Chesty Cough Mixture Mentholated exactly as described in the patient information leaflet or as your doctor / Chemist4U pharmacist has told you. 

Children aged 5-12: 1 x 5ml spoonful every 4 hours. 

Adults: 1 or 2 x 5ml spoonfuls every 4 hours. 

Do not exceed the recommended dose.

 

Side effects

Like all medicines, Covonia Chesty Cough Mixture Mentholated may cause side effects in some people, but these won’t affect everybody. Common side effects include: 

 

  • Allergic reactions e.g. dermatitis, skin rashes, flushing and itchy lumps 
  • Higher sodium and water levels within the body 
  • Low blood potassium levels within the body 

 

If you experience any side effects, including any not included in the patient information leaflet, you can report them using the MHRA Yellow Card Scheme.

 

Serious side effects

Seek emergency medical attention if you notice any signs of a severe allergic reaction, symptoms of which include swelling of the face and throat, skin rash, breathing difficulties and/or loss of consciousness. 

Warnings

Covonia Chesty Cough Mixture Mentholated may be unsuitable for certain people. Do not use this product if you are allergic to any of the ingredients or if:

 

  • You have a type of heart complaint 
  • You are an alcoholic 
  • You have breathing difficulties 
  • You have raised pressure in your head 
  • You have heart, liver or kidney problems 

 

This product contains alcohol. Do not use this product if you suffer from alcoholism. The small amount of alcohol in this medicine will not have any noticeable effects. 

The formula contains 1.3g of glucose and 1.3g of sucrose per 5ml dose. Talk to your doctor before taking this medicine if you have diabetes or an intolerance to certain sugars. 

 

Using/taking other medicines

If you are taking or have recently taken any medication, including medication obtained without a prescription, talk to your GP or pharmacist before taking this product. 

You must tell your healthcare provider if you are taking carbenoxolone for a stomach ulcer or medicines that help to remove fluids from the body. 

 

Age restrictions 

This product is not suitable for children under 5 years old. 

 

Pregnancy and breastfeeding

If you are pregnant or breastfeeding, think you may be pregnant or are planning to have a baby, you must ask your doctor or Chemist4U pharmacist for advice before taking any new medicine. 

 

Storage information

Store below 25°C in a cool, dry place out of sight and reach of children. Do not use after the expiry date, referring to the last day of the month stated on the packaging. Do not throw away any medicines via wastewater or household waste.
