Benylin Chesty Coughs Original is a medicine that can help with chesty cough symptoms.

 

How Benylin Chesty Coughs Original works

Benylin Chesty Coughs Original contains diphenhydramine, a drowsy antihistamine. It helps relieve coughing and dry secretions in the nose and chest.

It also contains levomenthol, which relieves congestion, helping you breathe more easily.

 

Directions

Always take Benylin Chesty Coughs Original exactly as described in the patient information leaflet or as your doctor / Chemist4U pharmacist has told you. 

Take 2 x 5ml spoonfuls 4 times a day. Do not take more than 4 doses in 24 hours.

 

Side effects

Like all medicines, Benylin Chesty Coughs Original may cause side effects in some people, but these won’t affect everybody. Common side effects may include: 

 

  • Drowsiness
  • Dizziness
  • Headaches
  • Excitability 
  • Slowness in movement or speech
  • Blurred vision
  • Unusual weakness
  • Thick phlegm 
  • Dry mouth 
  • Nausea
  • Vomiting

 

If you experience any side effects, including any not included in the patient information leaflet, you can report them using the MHRA Yellow Card Scheme.

 

Serious side effects

Seek emergency medical attention if you notice any signs of a severe allergic reaction, symptoms of which include swelling of the face and throat, skin rash, breathing difficulties and/or loss of consciousness. 

 

Warnings

Benylin Chesty Coughs Original may be unsuitable for certain people. Do not take this product if you are allergic to any of the ingredients.

Talk to your doctor or Chemist4U pharmacist before taking this medicine if: 

 

  • You suffer from liver or kidney problems
  • You have a persistent cough 
  • You have bronchitis 
  • You have emphysema 
  • You have asthma and are suffering from an asthma attack
  • You have difficulty passing water or prostate problems 
  • You have glaucoma 
  • You have an intolerance to some sugars

 

Using/taking other medicines

If you are taking or have recently taken any medication, including medication obtained without a prescription, talk to your GP or pharmacist before taking this product.

You must tell your healthcare provider if you are taking the following medicine:

 

  • Opioid analgesics e.g. codeine, tramadol or morphine 
  • Antidepressants 
  • Atropine to treat eye conditions and occasionally bowel disorders
  • Minor tranquillisers to relax muscles or decrease anxiety
  • Sleeping tablets, including barbiturates
  • Antipsychotic drugs 
  • Monoamine oxidase inhibitors (MAOIs) or if you have taken them in the last two weeks

 

Age restrictions 

This product is not suitable for anyone under 12 years old.

 

Pregnancy and breastfeeding

If you are pregnant or breastfeeding, think you may be pregnant or are planning to have a baby, you must ask your doctor or Chemist4U pharmacist for advice before taking any new medicine. 

 

Alcohol

Avoid drinking alcohol when you are taking this medicine.

 

Driving and operating machinery 

Benylin Chesty Coughs Original may cause drowsiness. Do not drive or operate machinery until you feel safe enough to do so.

 

Storage information

Store in a cool, dry place out of sight and reach of children. Do not use after the expiry date, referring to the last day of the month stated on the packaging. Do not throw away any medicines via wastewater or household waste.
