What is Nicorette Freshmint Sugar-Free 4mg Nicotine?

This Nicorette treatment comes in the form of gum that helps those who wish to quit smoking. It can also be used by smokers as an alternative to smoking when smoking is not an option. The active ingredient in this gum is nicotine, the same ingredient that causes addictiveness to cigarettes.

What causes nicotine dependency?

Nicotine dependency is the result of it getting into the body when smoking. When someone smokes, the inhalation of the smokes gets into the lungs, which then causes nicotine to spread around the body and into the brain. This releases the neurotransmitter dopamine. Neurotransmitters control mood and behaviour. Dopamine causes an improved mood and a feeling of pleasure. This causes an increased dependency on nicotine. Addiction is dependent on certain triggers that cause cravings. These will differ from person-to-person.

Who is this Nicorette gum suitable for?

This Nicorette gum is suitable to be used by adults and children aged 12 and over. The gum should not be used by anyone who is allergic to the ingredients contained in them. You should talk to a doctor or Chemist 4 U pharmacist before using if any of the following apply to you:

  • Are in the hospital because of heart disease
  • Have a stomach ulcer
  • Have liver or kidney disease
  • Have an overactive thyroid gland
  • Are diabetic

You should also seek medical advice if you are using any other form of medication.

Can someone who is pregnant or breastfeeding use this gum?

Anyone who is pregnant or breastfeeding should try and quit smoking without using any form of NRT first. If this is not possible, then this gum is better to use than smoking. If you need advice on what is the best treatment for you, consult a medical professional.

How should Nicorette Freshmint Sugar-Free 4mg Nicotine be used?

Chewing this gum is not like chewing other types of gum. For the best treatment, chew until the taste is strong and then rest between the gum and cheek. When the taste has faded, chew it again. This should take about 30 minutes to complete. When using, only use 1 piece of gum at a time. Never use more than 15 pieces of gum a day. If you smoke more than 20 cigarettes a day, then this gum is suitable for you. Anyone who smokes less than 20 a day should use the 2mg gum instead.
