What is Nicorette 2mg Gum?

This Nicorette Gum is a gum that helps to relieve the effects of withdrawal symptoms associated with reducing or quitting smoking. This gum can also be used as a replacement for cigarettes when you are unable to use a cigarette. This gum contains nicotine, which helps to combat the addiction to nicotine and cigarettes by reducing the dependency on the drug. This is known as Nicotine Replacement Therapy (NRT).

What causes nicotine addiction?

Nicotine addiction is the result of smoking and is the cause of addiction to smoking. When smoking a cigarette, the tobacco smoke gets inhaled into the lungs. There, it gets into the blood and can get around the body in seconds. In the brain, dopamine is released. This is a neurotransmitter (regulates mood and behaviour) that emits the feeling of pleasure. Nicotine addiction causes behavioural as well as physical factors. Certain triggers will cause the need to smoke and will vary depending on the person.

Who is this gum suitable for?

This Nicorette Gum is suitable to be used by adults and children aged 12 and over who are looking to reduce smoking cravings. It should not be used by anyone who is allergic to nicotine or any of the other ingredients contained in the gum. You should speak to a doctor or Chemist 4 U pharmacist before using if any of the following apply to you:

  • In hospital because of heart disease
  • Have a stomach ulcer
  • Have kidney or heart disease
  • Have an overactive thyroid gland
  • Have diabetes

You should also get medical advice if you are currently using any other form of medication.

Can someone who is pregnant or breastfeeding use this gum?

Before using this gum, someone who is pregnant or breastfeeding should try to quit smoking without using any form of NRT. However, if you are unable to do that, then using this gum is safer for you and your baby. If you need advice, consult a medical professional.

When should Nicorette 2mg Gum be used?

Use a piece of gum when you feel cravings. Only use 1 piece of gum at a time and no not exceed using more than 15 pieces of gum a day. Only use this gum if you have been smoking less than 20 cigarettes a day. If you have been exceeding 20 a day, you should use the Nicorette 4mg Gum as NRT instead.
