What are NiQuitin Patches Step 1?

NiQuitin Patches Step 1 are your first step on your quit smoking journey. They help to replace the nicotine your body craves when you’re quitting smoking, making it easier for you to quit than it would be cold turkey. Each patch lasts for 24 hours and is waterproof, so you can apply one every day and then forget it’s even there, so it can support you from the sidelines while you stop smoking.

What is NRT (Nicotine Replacement Therapy)?

Nicotine Replacement Therapy, which is also known as NRT, is a way to quit smoking which replaces the nicotine in your cigarettes. By providing the nicotine your body craves, NRT products help to reduce withdrawal symptoms and cravings, making it easier for you to quit. NRT products are available in lots of different types and strengths, so you can choose a product that will fit into your lifestyle at a strength that will help you to manage your cravings. Some of the most popular types of NRT products include:

  • Patches

  • Chewing gum

  • Lozenges

  • Inhalators

  • Mouth or nasal sprays

How will NiQuitin 21mg patches help me to quit smoking?

When you stop smoking, your body craves the nicotine it would usually get from cigarettes, causing unpleasant withdrawal symptoms and making you feel like you need a cigarette. NiQuitin Step 1 Patches each contain 21mg of nicotine which is gradually released into your system through your skin throughout the day, providing nicotine without exposing you to all of the harmful toxins and tar in cigarette smoke. This helps to keep your cravings under control throughout the day by satisfying your body’s need for nicotine and reducing any withdrawal symptoms you would usually experience when quitting cold turkey, making it easier for you to finally quit.

When should I use NiQuitin Step 1 Patches?

NiQuitin Step 1 patches are ideal for those who smoke 10 or more cigarettes a day and want to quit or cut down. We’d usually recommend using the NiQuitin Step 1 patches in place of cigarettes for 6 weeks, before continuing to Step 2 and then Step 3. If you smoke less than 10 cigarettes a day you should start with NiQuitin Step 2 patches, which each contain 14mg of nicotine, before moving onto Step 3 and then quitting entirely.

Can I use these nicotine patches if I’m pregnant or breastfeeding?

If you’re pregnant or breastfeeding you should quit smoking right away without using NRT, if possible. However, if you are really struggling to quit without support, NRT products like NiQuitin patches might be the right choice for you. This is because using NRT is safer for you and your baby than smoking, as the tar and other toxins in cigarette smoke aren’t present in NRT products. If you do use NiQuitin patches during pregnancy, you should apply each patch first thing in the morning and then remove it before you go to bed rather than using each patch for 24 hours.

Can I use this product if I’m taking other medication?

If you’re taking any other medication you should speak to your doctor or pharmacist before using NiQuitin patches. Some medications, such as diabetes medications, may need adjusting in terms of dosage or monitoring while you’re quitting smoking or using NRT.

Can I wear these patches in the shower?

You can wear NiQuitin patches in the shower, or while bathing or swimming for short periods of time. Water won’t harm the patch as long as you apply it properly, so don’t worry about needing to remove your patch when you need to shower.

How to use NiQuitin Step 1 Patches

Before each use, choose a clea, dry, hairless area of skin where you can apply the patch. Remove the NiQuitin patch from its protective sachet and place it onto the skin with the sticky side facing down. Press the patch firmly onto the skin with your hand for at least 10 seconds, making sure it sticks to your skin properly, especially around the edges of the patch. Wash your hands with clean water immediately after. Apply a new patch once a day, leaving each patch in place for 24 hours. Apply each patch to a different patch of skin every time, do not use the same area of skin more than once within a week.

How long should I use Step 1 patches for?

If you’re using NiQuitin Step 1 21mg patches to help you to cut down from 10 or more cigarettes a day and potentially quit completely, you should use these patches every day for 6 weeks. After this, you should move on to Step 2 14mg patches for 2 weeks, before finally moving on to Step 3 7mg patches for 2 weeks before, ideally, stopping completely.

When should this product not be used?

NiQuitin patches are not suitable for children under the age of 12. If you’re younger than 18 and don’t want to quit right away, you should speak to your doctor or pharmacist. Do not use this product if you’re allergic to nicotine or any of the other listed ingredients. This product should not be taken by non-smokers or those who have never been regular smokers.
