What is Nicorette 4mg Fruitfusion Gum?

Nicorette Fruitfusion Gum is a gum that works as a form of Nicotine Replacement Therapy (NRT). NRT is a method of treatment that is used to help quit smoking. It can also be used as a replacement for a cigarette when smoking is not possible. The active ingredient is nicotine, the same drug as in tobacco cigarettes that causes addiction. Using a smaller amount of nicotine can aid in stopping cravings and the need to smoke altogether.

What causes nicotine addiction?

Nicotine addiction is caused by smoking and the tobacco getting into the lungs, where it can spread nicotine throughout the body and into the brain within seconds. When the brain receives nicotine, it releases a neurotransmitter, that regulates mood and behaviour, known as dopamine. Dopamine causes an improved mood and a feeling of pleasure. These feelings are what makes nicotine so addictive, as it causes behavioural and physical associations that can trigger cravings. To overcome addiction, a plan is required for what to do when these triggers are caused.

Who is this Nicorette Gum suitable for?

This gum is suitable to be used by adults and children aged 12 and over. It should not be used by anyone who is allergic to the ingredients that are contained in the gum. They should also not be used by anyone who any of the following applies to:

  • In hospital because of heart disease
  • Have a stomach ulcer
  • Have kidney or heart disease
  • Have an overactive thyroid gland
  • Have diabetes

You should also get medical advice if you are currently using any other form of medication.

Can someone who is pregnant or breastfeeding use this Nicorette treatment?

Someone who is pregnant or breastfeeding can use this gum to treat nicotine addiction, though it is recommended that an attempt to quit smoking is done without using any NRT. Seek advice from a medical professional for advice before using any treatment.

How should Nicorette 4mg Fruitfusion Gum be used?

Use a single piece of gum and place in the mouth and chew until the taste has gone. This should take around 30 minutes. Do not use more than 15 pieces of gum a day. Only use this gum if you have been having more than 20 cigarettes a day. If you smoke less than 20 cigarettes a day, use the 2mg gum.

Are there any side effects?

You may experience side effects as a result of taking a reduced amount of nicotine. These include:

  • Irritability
  • Feeling low
  • Anxiety
  • Restlessness
  • Poor concentration
  • Increased appetite
  • Cravings
  • A lack of sleep
  • A lower heart rate

There is also a chance of side effects caused by the gum itself, which include:

  • A headache
  • A cough
  • Nausea
  • Hiccups
  • Sore throat
  • Dizziness
  • A loss of taste
  • Tingling or numbness in the hands or feet
  • Stomach pain
  • Diarrhoea

  • Indigestion
  • Burning sensation in the mouth
  • Fatigue
  • High blood pressure
  • Belching

If you notice any of these side effects, or any other side effect, stop using this gum treatment and speak to a doctor or Chemist 4 U pharmacist as soon as possible. You can also record a side effect using the MHRA Yellow Card Scheme.
