What are Difflam Mint lozenges?

These Difflam lozenges are a treatment that works to reduce the effects of a sore throat. The lozenges work thanks to the active ingredient in them, benzydamine hydrochloride. Benzydamine is part of a group of drugs known as Non-Steroidal Anti-Inflammatory Drugs, which help to reduce inflammation and pain in the throat. Use these lozenges to treat mouth and throat irritation and inflammation.

What causes a sore throat?

The primary reason that you may experience a sore throat is because of a virus, such as a cold or the flu. It can also be caused by smoking, and in rarer cases by bacteria in the throat. You will know if you have a sore throat if you experience the following symptoms:

  • Throat pain, especially when swallowing
  • A dry throat
  • Redness in the mouth
  • Bad breath (halitosis)
  • Mild coughing
  • Swollen neck glands

When children are suffering from a sore throat, they may also have a fever and appear less active than usual.

Who are these lozenges suitable for?

These lozenges are suitable to be used by adults and children aged 6 and over. They should not be used by anyone who is allergic to the ingredients that are contained in the lozenges, or if you are allergic to any other NSAIDs. If you suffer from a condition known as phenylketonuria, then do not use these lozenges. You should speak to a doctor or Chemist 4 U pharmacist before using if any of the following are applicable to you:

  • Have a history of asthma
  • Have an intolerance to some sugars

If you are using any other type of medication, then speak to a doctor or Chemist 4 U pharmacist for advice.

Can someone who is pregnant or breastfeeding use these Difflam lozenges?

These lozenges are not suitable to be used by anyone who is pregnant or breastfeeding. It is recommended that anyone who is pregnant or breastfeeding consults a medical professional for advice before using any treatment.

How should Difflam Mint lozenges be used?

Take a single lozenge up to 3 times a day. Do not exceed 3 lozenges a day. If the symptoms do not improve after using these lozenges. Speak to your doctor.

Are there any side effects?

Like with many medicines, there is a chance of side effects. Potential side effects include skin sensitivity in sunlight, burning sensation in the mouth, swelling, difficulty breathing, as well as an allergic reaction. If you notice a side effect, then stop using these lozenges and speak to a doctor or Chemist 4 U pharmacist as soon as possible. You can also record any side effect that you notice using the MHRA Yellow Card Scheme.
