What is Covonia Throat Spray?

Covonia Throat Spray is a treatment that helps to reduce the pain and irritation caused by a sore throat. This spray contains two active ingredients that effectively reduce pain and kill germs and bacteria. The active ingredients in this spray are:

  • Chlorhexidine
  • Lidocaine

Chlorhexidine which is an antiseptic that kills germs and bacteria in the mouth and throat that cause pain and irritation and lidocaine is a painkiller that targets where the pain is felt.

 

What causes a sore throat?

A sore throat can be caused by a number of different conditions, including an infection such as a cold or the flu. A sore throat can also be caused by an allergy or other conditions, such as:

  • Tonsillitis
  • Laryngitis
  • Smoking

The symptoms that are indicative of a sore throat will be a painful throat, or redness in the throat, and a mild cough.

 

Who is this throat spray suitable for?

This Covonia Throat Spray is suitable to be used by adults and children aged 12 and over. This spray should not be used by anyone who is allergic to the ingredients contained in this spray, or any other type of anaesthetic. It should also not be used if you have difficulty swallowing. If you are using any other medication, speak to a doctor or Chemist 4 U pharmacist before using.

 

Can this throat spray be used by someone who is pregnant or breastfeeding?

Anyone who is pregnant or breastfeeding should speak to a medical professional before using this spray.

 

How should Covonia Throat Spray be used?

Turn the tube to activate the nozzle. Point the nozzle to the back of the throat, avoiding the eyes. Spray 3-5 times in one application and use for 6-10 times a day.

 

Are there any side effects?

Like with many types of medicine, there is a chance of side effects. Potential side effects include:

  • Skin sensitivity
  • Burning sensation of the tongue
  • Swelling in the mouth

If you notice any side effect, then stop using and speak to a doctor or Chemist 4 U pharmacist as soon as possible. You can also record a side effect using the MHRA Yellow Card Scheme.
