What is Difflam Sore Throat Rinse?

The Difflam rinse is a treatment that works to relieve the effects of a sore throat. The active ingredient of this rinse is benzydamine, which is known as a non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drug (NSAID). NSAIDs work by reducing the pain and inflammation in the affected area.

What causes a sore throat?

A sore throat is mainly caused by a virus infection, such as a cold or the flu. A sore throat can also be caused by smoking. A sore throat is generally a symptom of another condition, but there can also be other symptoms for a sore throat. These include:

  • Painful throat when swallowing
  • Dry, scratchy throat
  • Redness in the throat, in particular, the back
  • Bad breath
  • Coughing
  • Swollen neck glands

Children can also get a temperature when suffering from a sore throat.

Who is this Difflam Rinse suitable for?

Difflam Rinse is suitable to be used by adults and children over the age of 12. It should not be used by anyone who is allergic to the ingredients contained in the liquid. You should speak to a doctor or Chemist 4 U pharmacist before using if you have or have had any of the following:

  • A history of asthma
  • Allergic to any NSAID drugs

You should also consult a medical professional if you are using any medication for any other condition.

Can someone who is pregnant or breastfeeding use this rinse?

Anyone who is pregnant or breastfeeding should speak to a doctor or Chemist 4 U pharmacist before using this Difflam Rinse.

How should Difflam Sore Throat Rinse be used?

The recommended dosage is 15ml of the rinse to be used every 1½-3 hours. Use the included measuring to correctly measure out the rinse. The solution should be used for 20-30 seconds to rinse the mouth out before being spat out.

Are there any side effects?

Because it is a medicine, there is a chance of side effects. Potential side effects include:

  • Difficulty breathing
  • Itching
  • A skin rash
  • Numbness in the throat

If you notice any side effect, then you should stop using and speak to a doctor or Chemist 4 U pharmacist as soon as possible. You can also record any side effect you notice using the MHRA Yellow Card Scheme.
