What is Difflam Sore Throat Rinse?

This Difflam Rinse is a liquid treatment for sore throats. Swish the rinse around your mouth or gargle with it like a mouthwash to ease pain and inflammation caused by a sore throat. If you’re suffering from a painful, irritated throat, Difflam Rinse could help to ease your pain and let you feel more comfortable again.

What causes a sore throat?

Sore throats are usually caused by viruses, like colds or the flu, or very occasionally, by bacteria. You may also find yourself suffering from a sore throat if you’re a smoker. Sore throats will usually improve by themselves within a week, but until then you may experience side effects such as:

  • Pain, especially when swallowing
  • Dry, scratchy throat
  • Redness in the throat or back of the mouth
  • Bad breath
  • Coughing
  • Swollen neck glands
  • Children may also experience a high temperature and may appear less active

How will the benzydamine in Difflam Mouthwash help to ease my sore throat?

The active ingredient in Difflam Mouthwash is benzydamine hydrochloride, which is one of a group of medications called Non-Steroidal Anti-Inflammatory Drugs (NSAIDs). This means that this mouth rinse works by changing how your body reacts to pain, reducing pain and inflammation all at once. This helps to soothe your sore throat and reduce any swelling that may be causing you discomfort.

Can I use this rinse if I’m pregnant or breastfeeding?

If you’re pregnant or breastfeeding, you should speak to your doctor or pharmacist before using Difflam Rinse. This product contains a small amount of alcohol (1.5ml of ethanol in every 15ml dose), so it may not be suitable for you at this time.

Can I use this product if I’m taking other medications?

If you’re taking any other medications, you should speak to your doctor or pharmacist before using Difflam mouthwash. Some medications may not be suitable to use together, as they can make your medicine less effective or cause unwanted side effects, but a medical professional can help you to avoid this.

How to use this mouthwash

Measure out 15ml of Difflam Rinse in the measuring cup provided. Swish the rinse around your mouth or gargle for 20 – 30 seconds before spitting out. Do this every 1 ½ - 3 hours for best results.

When should this product not be used?

Difflam Rinse is not suitable for use in children under the age of 12. Do not use this product if you are allergic to benzydamine hydrochloride or any of the other listed ingredients. For use in the mouth only, avoid contact with eyes or other sensitive areas. Speak to your doctor or pharmacist before using this product if you:

  • Have a history of asthma
  • Are allergic to aspirin or any other NSAIDs (non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs), such as ibuprofen

Does Difflam Rinse have any side effects?

Like all medications, Difflam Rinse can have side effects, although not everyone will experience them. If you experience any of the following side effects of a serious allergic reaction, stop use and seek immediate medical assistance:

  • Difficulty breathing
  • Chest pain or tightness
  • Feeling dizzy or faint
  • Severe itching of the skin

Other side effects you may experience include:
