What is Dequadin?

Dequadin Sore Throat Lozenges are a treatment that works to provide relief for symptoms associated with a sore throat as well as mouth ulcers, tonsillitis, stomatitis, and oral thrush. The active ingredient in these lozenges is dequalinium.  Dequalinium is an antiseptic that kills bacteria, yeasts, and fungi in the mouth.

What causes a sore throat?

The main cause of a sore throat is a viral infection, such as a cold or the flu. It can also be caused by smoking. The main characteristics of a sore throat include:

  • Painful throat when swallowing
  • Dry, scratchy throat
  • Redness in the throat, in particular, the back
  • Bad breath
  • Coughing
  • Swollen neck glands

Children can also get a temperature when suffering from a sore throat.

Who are these lozenges suitable for?

These lozenges are suitable to be used by adults and children aged 10 and over. Anyone who is allergic to the ingredients contained in these lozenges should not use them. Also, do not use Dequadin if you have an intolerance to some sugars. If you are diabetic, check before using if they are safe to use.

Can someone pregnant or breastfeeding use these lozenges?

Anyone who is pregnant or breastfeeding should speak to a medical professional before using these lozenges.

How should Dequadin Sore Throat Lozenges be used?

Suck one lozenge slowly every 2-3 hours. Do not use more than 8 lozenges in 24 hours. If your symptoms do not improve after a few days of using, speak to a doctor or Chemist 4 U pharmacist.

Are there any side effects?

If used properly, there should not be any side effects. However, some may experience a side effect as a result of an allergic reaction, or through overusing the lozenges. If you experience an allergic reaction or a sore tongue, then stop using and speak to a doctor or Chemist 4 U as soon as possible. You can also record a side effect you discover using the MHRA Yellow Card Scheme

Why do I need to answer questions to buy this product?

You do not need a prescription for Dequadin Lozenges, however, you will be asked to complete a short medical questionnaire by your Chemist 4 U pharmacist before we can take your order. This includes some simple questions that all pharmacies legally are required to ask before supplying this kind of product. This helps our pharmacy team to be sure that Dequadin is the best choice for you.
