What is Hirudoid Gel?

Hirudoid Gel is a treatment that is intended to be used for relieving pain and inflammation of the veins, as well as bruising. The active ingredient in the gel is heparinoid, which is an anticoagulant that will reduce the effects of a blood clot.

What causes a blood clot?

A blood clot, also known as phlebitis, is a condition that occurs to stop bleeding. When bruised on the skin, a blood clot could occur to stop blood flowing to the wound. A blood clot can cause a condition known as superficial thrombophlebitis is when the vein near the surface of the skin has become inflamed because of a blood clot. A blood clot is most likely caused by an injury but can also be caused by:

  • Obesity
  • Smoking
  • Pregnancy
  • A stroke
  • Surgery
  • Contraceptives
  • Hormone Replacement Therapy
  • Cancer

In most cases, a blood clot will not be serious.

Works as it should. Prefer Gel to the cream as it dries more quickly. The cream can stick to bedding and clothes whereas the gel does not. Follow the instructions. Do not apply too much.
