What is Hirudoid Cream?
Hirudoid Cream is a cream that will relieve pain and inflammation on the skin as well as helping to heal the skin in inflammation of the veins and bruising. The active ingredient in this cream s heparinoid, which is an anticoagulant that thins the blood, preventing blood clots.
What causes inflammation in the veins?
Vein inflammation, known as phlebitis or superficial thrombophlebitis, is a condition that occurs as a result of a blood clot in the vein, or the walls of the vein are damaged. Superficial thrombophlebitis is, in particular, the name for a vein near the skin surface that has become inflamed because of a blood clot. This condition can be caused by several different things, such as sitting for too long in a car, plane, or train, after surgery and by some types of cancer. It is not usually a serious condition. People who are most at risk are most likely to be smokers, overweight, taking contraception or HRT (Hormone Replacement Therapy), are pregnant, have cancer, or had a blood clot before.
Who is Hirudoid Cream suitable for?
This cream is suitable to be used by adults and children aged 5 and over. It should not be used by anyone who any of the following applies to:
- Allergic to any of the ingredients contained in the cream
- Have broken skin, or on large areas of skin
- Has inflammation on the mouth, eyes, genitals, or back passage
If you are using any other form of medication, then speak to a doctor or Chemist 4 U pharmacist before using.
Can someone who is pregnant or breastfeeding use this cream?
Anyone who is pregnant or breastfeeding should consult a medical professional for advice before using any form of medication.
How should Hirudoid Cream be used?
The amount of cream that you use will vary depending on the size of the area of the skin that you are treating. It is recommended that 5-15cm of cream is used, depending on the size of the area treated. This cream can be used up to four times a day. Wash your hands after using, unless that is where you are treating for inflamed veins.
Are there any side effects?
In some circumstances, this cream can cause a rash, particularly on sensitive. If this occurs, stop using the cream and speak to a doctor or Chemist 4 U pharmacist as soon as possible. You can record any side effect that you discover using the MHRA Yellow Card Scheme.
Why do I need to answer questions to buy this product?
You do not need a prescription for Hirudoid Cream, however, you will be asked to complete a short medical questionnaire by your Chemist 4 U pharmacist before we can take your order. This includes some simple questions that all pharmacies legally are required to ask before supplying this kind of product.
