What is Doublebase Once Emollient?

Suitable for infants, children, adults and the elderly, Doublebase Once is an advanced, highly moisturising and protective emollient that can moisturise dry skin for up to 24 hours after just one application. It’s ideal to treat dry skin conditions such as eczema, psoriasis and ichthyosis. This emollient can also be used for washing, too, with it containing the soap substitute macrogol stearyl ether in order to prevent further drying out the skin.

How to use this product

Always use Doublebase Once Emollient exactly as described in the patient information leaflet or as your doctor / Chemist4U pharmacist has told you. To use, gently smooth Doublebase Once over and around all dry skin areas once daily or as often as needed. Use a few gentle strokes to smooth the gel across the skin in the same direction as hair growth. If necessary, allow time for any excess to soak in. Do not rub the skin vigorously.

When used as a soap substitute for washing, in order to prevent further drying of the skin, use as you would use your normal soap. If you are applying another treatment to the same areas of skin as Doublebase Once, try to avoid mixing the two products. This can be achieved by applying the treatments alternately, leaving sufficient time to allow the previous application to soak in.

What is dry skin?

Many people have naturally dry skin, but it can also be caused by exposure to cold weather, central heating and air conditioning. Dry skin can be rough, scaly and uncomfortable, causing itchiness. To relieve this cycle it is important to use an emollient cream.

Your dry skin may also be the result of eczema, which is when your natural oils are lacking. When moisture escapes, the skin will dry and crack, allowing bacteria in. This leads to inflammation and itching, most commonly in the creases of your skin, or on your elbows and knees.

Additionally, emollient cream is effective against psoriasis, which is a chronic autoimmune skin condition and is often hereditary. It occurs due to the rapid growth of skin cells, causing plaques to form on the skin, appearing in flaky, scaly and red patches.

These can be developed on any part of the body, including the scalp, hands, feet and genitals. Although there is no cure for psoriasis, the regular application of emollients will hydrate the skin and keep it more comfortable.

Is Doublebase Once Emollient suitable for children?

Yes, Doublebase Once Emollient is suitable for both infants and children to treat a number of dry skin conditions, like eczema.

Is Doublebase Once Emollient suitable for pregnant and breastfeeding women?

This product can be used during pregnancy and breastfeeding. If you are pregnant or breastfeeding, think you may be pregnant or are planning to have a baby, you must ask your doctor or Chemist4U pharmacist for advice before using any new products.

When should this product not be used?

Doublebase Once Emollient may be unsuitable for certain people. Do not use this product if you are allergic to isopropyl myristate, liquid paraffin or any of the other listed ingredients. This product is for external use only.

Do not smoke or go near naked flames while using this product as there is a risk of severe burns. Fabric (clothing, bedding, dressings, etc) that has been in contact with this product burns more easily and is a serious fire hazard. Washing clothing and bedding may reduce product build-up, but not totally remove it.

Are there any side effects?

Like all products, Doublebase Once Emollient may cause side effects in some people, but these won’t affect everybody. Seek emergency medical attention if you notice any signs of a severe allergic reaction, symptoms of which include swelling of the face and throat, skin rash, breathing difficulties and/or loss of consciousness.

For more information on potential side effects, refer to the patient information leaflet. If you experience any side effects, including any not included in the patient information leaflet, you can report them using the MHRA Yellow Card Scheme.

Storage information

Store below 25°C in a cool, dry place out of sight and reach of children. Do not use after the expiry date, referring to the last day of the month stated on the packaging.
